“You think now is the time to call your ex?”
“No,” said Priscilla. “I think now is the time to call my brother and see if he can get in touch with Evelyn and the Council. Find out what’s happening here and there.”
“Isn’t he at work?”
“High school gets out at two thirty.”
“That can’t be true. What time does he go to work?”
“You don’t want to know.”
Agatha tried to give her some semblance of privacy, but there simply wasn’t any room for it. A step backward and she was pressed against the glass.
“Az?”
“Priss, you okay? Is it the car?” Agatha was horrified to learn that this close to Priscilla, she could hear every word he was saying.
“No, not the car. I’m in a bit of a situation.”
“What, did your hot boss realize you have real feelings?” Agatha’s face flamed. Was he joking? Teasing her? A traitorous part of her leapt at the thought of it. Azrael was pretty honest. Did Priscilla have real feelings?
“I’m stuck in a Loculus with her, actually, and she can hear every word you’re saying, so thanks for that.” Priscilla bit her lip, avoiding Agatha’s gaze.
“A Loculus? Like—”
Prissy interrupted him, “DO NOT say it.”
“Fine, fine. What did you do?”
“She didn’t do anything. Hi, Azrael. Agatha Vanderbilt Voisin here. Your sister was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and my attempt to stop the thing from taking her sort of worked, but also sort of backfired. I need you to bring someone who might be able to get us out of this.”
She racked her brain. Kevin was on vacation.
“Nancy. Call Otho’s niece, Nancy Ashbrooke,” Prissy finished for her. Agatha nodded. That was a surprisingly good idea.
“Someone to get you out of it. Got it. And then the International Council of Witchery. Any leads on who?”
Priscilla’s eyes darted to Agatha, her mouth set. “Call Evelyn.”
“Are you sure about that, Priss?”
“I talked to her this morning. We cleared this up, agreed that everything turned out as it should in the end. I think she’ll be amenable to helping.” She cleared her throat. “Though we won’t exactly ever be best friends after all of it, so I do think it’s better if you call.” The thought of Prissy talking to her ex this morning, possibly while Agatha was fucking herself and thinking of Priscilla, was deeply uncomfortable.
“What’s the backup plan if the Loculus magic takes you elsewhere? To the International Council?” Azrael’s voice broke through the water bottle–related reverie.
Priscilla’s brow furrowed.
Agatha sighed. She really didn’t want to reveal this. She cleared her throat.
“Hi, Azrael. Agatha here. I used my fail-safe against Council president kidnapping to stop the thing from taking us now that we’re chained together.”
“Chained together,” Azrael repeated, and she swore she heard a hint of a chuckle. A snort maybe. He cleared his throat. “Good. That’s good. Doesn’t that take like thirteen witches and a full moon to cast?”
“And three months to set, but it was worth it.”
“Az,” Prissy cut in, “just make the calls.”
“On it. Text me where you are and I’ll see what I can do about busting you out.”
