Me:
Nope.
I hold the phone in my lap and close my eyes, the kiss playing over in my head.
The phone buzzes again.
Lincoln:
We need to talk.
Me:
Nope.
“We do not need to talk,” I declare to my phone. “We need to do the opposite of that.”
The three dots come up on the screen.
Lincoln:
You really think we don’t need to talk about what just happened?
Me:
Correct.
“Why do you even want to talk to me to begin with, Lincoln?” I have this conversation with the phone instead of him. “You already spewed bullshit at me, offended me, thinking I would do something to hurt Asa.”
Lincoln:
I need to be out of the house tomorrow at eight.
Me:
Okay.
Lincoln:
Are you just going to give me one-word answers?
Me:
Yes.
Lincoln:
Finley.
Me:
Lincoln.
Lincoln:
You are acting like a child.
“I’m acting like a child?” I tell the phone. “I’m acting like a child?” My voice goes higher. “We’ll see.”
