“Yeah,” he confirms. “Get out of here.”

I turn around, not giving him a chance to take the offer back, and head home.

I’m pulling into the driveway when I see Asa in the back with Finley. She has the hose directed right at him.

“What is going on?” I ask as I step into the yard.

“Mr. Let’s-Go-Toad-Fighting—” she mutters.

“Hunting,” Asa corrects, holding out his hands at the water. He’s caked in mud.

“Whatever.” She glances at me. “Fell into a puddle of mud. Not just a small puddle.” She motions with her hand for him to turn around. “It was a lake-size puddle.”

“That’s where all the toads hide,” Asa defends himself.

“He had mud up his nose.” She turns off the water. “I think that got the worst of it off. Now get undressed and go take a shower,” she orders.

He peels off the soaked clothes and leaves them on the grass, running inside in his wet boxers.

“You’re going to have to throw those out.” She points to the clothes. “You don’t know what animal—” She stops talking because my mouth is on hers. My tongue is sliding into her mouth, and she drops the hose at our feet. “Asa,” she reminds me breathlessly when I let go of her mouth, “he could—” I stop her from talking by giving her another kiss.

When I finally let her go, I smile at her. “Hey, baby.”

“Hey.” She smirks at me. “You’re home early.”

“I’m going to be on call the rest of the week. So you still have to stay here just in case, but I’ll be here with you.”

“Oh, goodie, you get to do all the gross things, and I get to watch.”

“Whatever you want.” I would agree to just about anything as long as she’s there with me. The ticking of the clock is getting louder and louder. “Whatever you want.”

CHAPTER THIRTY

FINLEY

His heat moves away from me the second before I feel butterfly kisses on my shoulder, and I want to sink deeper into the bed. I want to turn back time. To stop the clock. I want today not to happen. I stayed awake as much as my eyes let me, not wanting to close them and be away from him. I hum as I feel him reach over me for the drawer that holds the condoms.

He moves away from me, and I turn to watch him over my shoulder. His eyes are filled with exhaustion since we were both up all night long. This whole week, it was as if we were trying to fit it all in. Every single touch has been embedded in my memory. Every single sound is going to be stored for replay. My eyes burn as I turn onto my back and open my legs for him. He crawls in between them, and our eyes lock. Not a word is said as he rubs his cock up and down my slit before sliding into me.

My back arches as my legs wrap around his hips, one hand roaming up his arm and toward the side of his neck as he pulls out of me, then thrusts back inside. I close my eyes, making sure I remember fucking everything in this moment. He puts his forehead on mine, and I lift my hips back to get him deeper.

“Baby,” he says my nickname softly, and it hits me right in the chest. Right in the middle, where the pain I’ve had most of the week has gotten worse and worse. No matter how much pressure I put on my chest to dull it, it was still there.

“Lincoln,” I whisper as his face buries in my neck, sucking my skin into his mouth. “Yes.” My hand grips the back of his neck, pulling him even closer to me. “It’s so good.” He pulls out and kisses my lips before moving to my jaw, thrusting longer and harder. When he looks into my eyes, emotion shining in them, his mouth slams down on mine. My other hand moves up to hold his face as I feel his heat all around me. He moves his mouth away and buries his face in my neck. I lock my legs around his back, and my arms wrap around him. My orgasm rocks through me at the same time he grunts my name.

I turn my head to kiss the side of his neck that I love kissing. The side of his neck where I can feel his heartbeat. The side of his neck that is always open for my kisses. His body collapses on mine, and I take his weight, tightening my hold on him.

I hear him inhale and then turn on his side, his hold just as tight on me. “Good morning.” I try to sound peppy, instead of how I really feel, which is like I’m losing a fucking piece of me. The last morning that I’ll wake up in his arms. The last morning that I’ll feel his kisses. The last morning that I’ll be happy to start the day.

“Good morning,” he mumbles, his arms locking together against my back as he kisses my neck.

“It’s late.” I look over at the clock and see it’s just a little past 7:00 a.m. “I should get out of here or at least go downstairs so Asa doesn’t catch me.”

“Five more minutes,” he negotiates, sounding very much like his son and making me laugh.

“Okay.” I don’t want this moment to end either.

This whole week has been different since he came home and told me he was on call. We spent the days doing activities together. We even went fishing, and it was so different from the first time. We ate every meal together. Last night, while we drank wine, sitting outside, I looked over at him, and I was this close to telling him how I felt about him. That I had gone and fallen in love with him.
