“It’s very suspicious and adorable you two have a secret language without words already,” Liliana says dryly.

Elijah goes pale as he glances at her, but she raises her finger to her lips, leaning around me to check on the girls. They’re currently playing with Rachelle and Theo while everyone else does dishes. Just because Calvin works as the house manager, doesn’t mean everyone else stops doing their part.

When I first moved in, I thought it was kind of wasteful to have him working here. I no longer think this and I can appreciate how nice it is to have an extra pair of hands when everyone is so busy. Calvin is the sweetest, and it’s obvious he cares about everyone.

“Not a word until we’re in the office,” she hisses. “Wait, fuck, they’ll see us.”

The living room is open on two sides to give the house a more open floor plan. It also means that it’s harder to sneak around if someone is in there.

“Outside,” she growls, turning and walking quickly for the door.

Shit, shit, shit!

“Fuck,” Elijah mutters, following her. “Time to come clean, kid?”

“Guess it is,” I sigh, walking beside him. “I was just thinking about how I’m pretty sure you’re right and a test will just confirm that.”

Liliana walks us back to a door hidden across the patio, and I feel nervous as I walk down the steps to what appears to be part of the basement.

“Well, hopefully you’re not planning to kill me,” Elijah snorts as he jogs down the steps.

“I…What?” she asks. “God, no. It’s the only place I could think of without going past the living room, Elijah. If I was going to get rid of you, I’d have done it a long time ago. This way.”

The stairs take us down to a room full of stone, and reminds me a bit of a torture chamber. As we walk through another door, I’m surprised to find a pretty movie theater type of space with couches. You’d never expect to see this after the other room.

“What is with the looks?” Lili asks, crossing her arms over her chest as she glances at us.

Grimacing, I walk over to a couch and sit down.

“It’s kind of complicated,” I mumble. “I can’t ignore it anymore though.”

“Okay,” she says, drawing out the word as she waits for me to talk to her.

Elijah looks really nervous, but there’s no other way to explain this than to rip off the bandaid.

“I need to take a pregnancy test,” I confess, causing Elijah to begin coughing. Liliana’s jaw is nearing unhinged as she gazes between us before she groans.

“Those fucking idiots!” she yells. “Are you okay?”

“I don’t know?” I say weakly. “I’m craving foods I don’t usually like, gaining weight, and I’m nauseous unless I eat almost as soon as I wake up. It’s another complication to get used to. However, whatever happens, I decided that if I’m pregnant, I’ll keep the baby.”

“That’s one question answered,” she murmurs. “Do you mind if I get the rest of the answers I need from Elijah while you take a pregnancy test?”

“Sorry, Elijah,” I say, standing. I guess if we’re both caught, he can help fill in some holes for Lili.

“Anything for you,” he grumbles. “Do we have tests in the house, Lili?”

“Yeah, we do. Rachelle and I aren’t necessarily trying to get pregnant, but we have tests in case they’re needed.”

What Liliana doesn’t say is that she never thought I would need them. Same, so much same. Fucking Devils.

“Let me find them,” Lili adds, leaving the room as she speaks.

“Can I give you a hug?” Elijah asks me. “I think I might need one more than you. Liliana is fucking vicious when she wants to be.”

“She’s not that bad,” I say, taking him up on his offer and walking into his open arms. I am not someone that likes physical touch, but only because I’ve been starved of it for so long.

I never know the proper time frame to continue a hug or when to let go. The last real hugs before I came here were those from my mother, but I think the last one I can remember is when I was eight. After I started fainting, it’s like everything went to shit.
