Carmen's chest rumbled with a low growl.

He glanced her way, and I stepped between them. A growl of my own escaped.

"On second thought, you can just write it on the forms," he said hastily, and handed the clipboard back.

I pulled my phone out and copied my lawyer's contact information down before passing it over. The man finally stepped out of the room, and I took a seat in the chair Carmen had occupied.

My lawyer texted me a few minutes later, and I focused on messaging her so Carmen wouldn't feel uncomfortable with the fact that I was in the room with her and Lisa.

They ran slowly through the stretches, and some exercises.

I texted back and forth with my lawyer, messaged the coach and the team's managers about the mate bond, and scheduled all of the required meetings.

I signed the physical therapists' forms digitally, around the time that Carmen finished with the exercises. Lisa spent a few minutes working on my mate's shoulder and arm herself, before we were finally done.

It wasn't even 8 AM. We had to head out to a few meetings, and we'd need to be back at noon and 4 PM for more physical therapy too.

It was going to be a long fucking day.

Especially considering the only thing I wanted to do was get my mate alone again.

And that was the last thing she wanted.

CHAPTER SEVEN

The meetings were uncomfortable.

And long.

Boring, too.

No one questioned us about whether the bond was an accident. The longer we went without being asked about it, the more it sank in that the reason behind it didn't matter.

The bond was there.

Getting rid of it would cause horrific pain that would prevent us from playing hockey again until we took other mates.

Basically?

We had to figure out how to make the thing between us work. There wasn't another viable option.

So, we spent the day in meetings.

And physical therapy.

There was barely time to grab food between them, but King made time. The man was determined not to let me starve, which I appreciated.

We were both too sensitive to having other people around to go to practice, so we played hooky. Technically, we had approval, but it still felt wrong.

Neither of us said much when we finally drove away from the arena.

I was exhausted, and just wanted to be home.

Part of me itched to be with King, but most of me just needed a solid two or three days away from him, to think. I had to figure out exactly how I felt about the bond situation, and what I was going to do as far as trying to make it work.

King parked in front of my apartment, but didn't shut the car off. I felt his eyes on me, even though I didn't look over at him.
