“Ok, maybe the next time you go, invite me and I’ll see if I can make it,” I said, laying my deck on the table knocking it three times.

“Sure, a few girls and I make it out there every other month,” she said, looking at the cards curiously.

I had started giving readings to the girls after they found my witchy page. Whimsical Witchery was my online store where I offered tarot reading, spells and I had a monthly snail mail I sent to baby witches of what was happening in terms of witchery that month. I had more experience with snail mail where I sent spells, self-care rituals or if I was feeling generous, a few herbs from my apothecary. My business had gotten me out of debt, given me enough money to pay for a nursing home for my grandparents and I was on my way to saving for my new home. Witchcraft was in my blood, using it every day gave me peace and sharing it with people was a dream.

“Ok, so think about what you want the cards to tell you, keep your questions on the forefront of your mind and cut the deck,” I said, while a few girls made their way to us.

Kaylee closed her eyes, taking a deep breath and cut the deck.

“Keep your eyes closed,” I said, feeling the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

I fanned the deck out in front of her.

“Now run your hand over the deck and pick out two cards,” I said, feeling like static was all around me as she did as I asked. “Now pick out two more… and two more.”

Money, luck and a new relationship. Those words flashed before me.

“These two cards are the money you desire,” I said, flipping the cards.

A five of pentacles upright and five of swords upright.

I flipped the next two cards. “These two cards are for luck towards the goal you want.”

The lovers upside down and the seven of cups, upright.

“And these cards are going to tell you what happens with this relationship,” I said, turning the last two cards.

The star upside down and the seven of swords upright.

“Girl!” Kaylee squealed.

“I have done nothing,” I said, alarmed.

“How did you know that’s what I was thinking?” She looked excited.

“Good intuition,” I said, looking at her cards again. “Now your money concerns look very complicated. You have drama surrounding money whether it’s with a friend or family. You need to either ask for help from someone close or maybe sever this relationship with whoever is draining your purse. Once you do, I can see your money troubles getting better.”

Kaylee’s eyes widened and I loved when the reading came easily.

“This luck you are asking for in your relationship, it looks like you might need to pause. Think about if this is something you really want or if your reasons for wanting this relationship are the right ones,” I said, trying to phrase this as gently as possible. “Before you pursue, maybe sit down and think if this is the direction you want to go because it mightn't end up how you want it.”

Kayle scowled. I tried not to say things sometimes, but I couldn’t help what the cards want me to say.

“Now if you want to continue with this relationship…” I paused, feeling a strong sense of wrong with her wants. “The journey to this relationship might be lonely and it looks like there will be deception that might keep you away from this relationsh—”

“So, this whole relationship is a bad idea?” She interrupted me.

“Yes,” I said, quickly explaining. “Whoever you want this relationship with doesn’t feel like the right fit. If you do, I feel like there might be deception and it will be a lonely relationship.”

I really wanted to say whatever she was dreaming up in her head was not the reality she was in. This relationship was going to end in disaster.

“That’s not what I wanted to hear,” she pouted.

“Maybe you need a love spell,” a girl who was watching us suggested.

Oh god, no.

“Oh my god can I do that?” she squealed.
