“Little witch, this isn’t just some game,” I said, running my hand through my hair.
“You think I don’t know that? I had killers in my fucking apartment,” she growled. “I…I…just don’t want to be alone.”
“You won’t, you will be at—”
“At the same place that asked me about you? The same place where a senator knew I gave a dance to Ezra?”
“What?” I growled. “Who knew?”
“Senator Cox,” she said, her nose scrunching up. “One of the men at my apartment was one man I've seen with him.”
I clenched my jaw. Was this the reason he was here?
“When was the last time he was at the club?”
“He comes in every couple of weeks, meeting donors and doing business at the club,” she sighed, turning towards me.
“Who does he meet with?” I asked, pulling out my phone to look for a photo.
“Everyone. People love him, but he’s never sat well with me,” she shivered. “He gives me the creeps. Behind the charming façade, he’s a dangerous and nasty man.”
I flipped my phone to her. “Have you seen this guy with the senator?”
She took my phone, studying the man.
“I haven’t seen him, but the man behind him is Louis Cox and I haven’t seen him in months,” she said, still studying my phone. “Wait, that man is from St. Patrick’s town.”
“Shit. Do you know his name?”
“No, and he hasn’t been at Valentine’s in a long time,” she said, giving me my phone back.
I nodded, hating that this was getting bigger by the moment. Saint might just have to settle for revenge instead of taking down the operations.
“Thanks, Xiomara,” I said, kissing her forehead.
“Can you tell me why you are here?” she whispered.
I took a deep breath. “Just know some bad people kidnapped my boss's wife and their girlfriend. We’ve uncovered a whole operation that suggests they are stealing women and selling them. We thought it was just in Europe, but what we’ve uncovered is an enormous operation that spans all over the world.”
“Did you get them back?” she asked, her eyes big with worry.
“Yeah, we did and with that we’ve uncovered a lot of underground shit we are attempting to flush out,” I said, pushing her hair behind her ear.
“So, you kill men, but you draw the line at kidnapping and selling women?”
My lips twitched. “God, I’m not a monster.”
“Of course not,” she said, her eyes blinking slowly.
“Get some rest while we wait for Ezra,” I said, pushing her back.
“I don’t think I can rest,” she murmured.
“I got you, little witch. Rest.” I sat in the chair by her bed.
Just a few minutes,” she said, her eyes fluttering closed, and in a minute she was out.
I got on my phone and called Madame Red even though I dreaded the phone call. She was going to ask for something and I hated to think what it might be because I would pay it no matter what.
