He closed his mouth.
Spencer’s expression shifted from sad to curious so fast it would’ve been funny if the moment hadn’t mattered. “Is your radio buddy cute?”
Sofia dropped a roll of gauze.
Oxi muttered, “Oh my God.”
Keith pressed his lips together.
Sofia picked up the gauze with as much dignity as a blushing bunker scientist could manage. “I have never seen him.”
“Him,” Luck mouthed silently.
I pointed at him without looking. “I said don’t.”
Luck whispered, “But she said him.”
Spencer took one step closer to Sofia, eyes bright now. “What’s his name?”
“No.”
“That’s not a name.”
“I appreciate the offer, Spencer,” Sofia said, very firmly changing the subject. “I’m here if you ever need anything, but I’m not leaving. My life is here.”
Spencer’s smile faded a little.
“I understand,” she mumbled, frowning. “But my offer stands. Always.”
Sofia’s expression softened again. “Thank you.”
The goodbye took longer than I expected.
Sofia checked Luck’s toe again and declared it safe enough to walk on. She rewrapped the toe with quick, careful hands, then loaded us up before we left. Not casually, either. Methodically. Like she’d already calculated exactly how much she could spare and exactly how much we would need.
“Antibiotics,” she said, handing me a sealed pack. “Broad-spectrum. Use sparingly. Don’t take them for a headache. Don’t take them because someone sneezed. Don’t take them because you feel only unwell.”
Luck looked offended. “Why did you look at me for that last one?”
“Because you seem like the type.”
Oxi nodded. “Accurate.”
I tucked the antibiotics safely into my backpack. “Got it.”
“Painkillers.” She handed me another package, then pointed at all of us. “Strong ones. Don’t get stupid with them.”
Luck grinned. “Thank you.”
Sofia’s eyes narrowed. “Especially you.”
His grin faded. “Understood.”
She moved down the line to Oxi and Keith. “Protein rations. High-calorie. You’ll need them. Electrolyte packets. Water purification tablets. Spare thermal liners. A small trauma kit. Two emergency blankets.”
Keith took his supplies with a quiet nod. “This is a lot.”
“Yes,” Sofia said.
