Mad and Luck were sound fucking asleep. It made me wonder if they were really trustworthy to sleep next to in a zombie apocalypse.
Then again, I was awake because the woman between us was moaning our names in her sleep, and instead of thinking about tactical awareness, I was fighting the urge to kiss her. So maybe none of us were trustworthy.
I gently shook her shoulder. “Spencer,” I murmured. “Wake up.”
Her pretty brown eyes popped open a second later. She inhaled sharply and sat up, hand flying to her chest as she tried to control her breathing. Her hair fell around her face in messy red and white streaks, and her cheeks were flushed even in the dim light. “Oxi?”
“Yeah.”
“Fuck.” She pressed her palm harder against her chest. “Did I…did you…did you hear me?”
I should have lied. But I couldn’t pretend I hadn’t heard her moan my name.
“Yeah, snowfire,” I rasped.
Her eyes widened. “Was I saying names?”
I leaned in before I could talk myself out of it, until my nose brushed against hers and I could feel the warmth of her breath against my mouth. “You were, and it’s taking every shred of control I have not to kiss you right now.”
Her breath caught, and for a minute, we just stared at each other. A flicker of decisiveness sparked in her eyes. “I’m tired of fighting my control,” she declared breathlessly.
She didn’t fucking hesitate. She leaned in, and her lips crashed against mine. On my gasp, she pushed her tongue into my mouth and tangled it around mine.
I froze for maybe half a second before my hand slid into her hair, and I kissed her back. She moaned into me as her hands tangled in my hair, pulling me closer. Kissing her cracked something in my chest wide open. It was an odd sensation. I hadn’t kissed anyone since high school, since way before the fucking zombie apocalypse. I’d forgotten the heat of it. Or maybe, I’d never experienced anything quite like this. Her lips were so soft.
Spencer was different—she was more than anything I’d ever hoped for. She tasted faintly like sleep and the mint gum we’d found in an old checkout drawer. Her mouth was warm, eager, and trembling just enough to remind me she was scared, too. Her fingers tightened in my hair, and my restraint frayed so fast I barely recognized myself.
My cock strained hard against my boxers, and then her hand slid down over the blanket and found me through the fabric.
I groaned into her mouth. “Fuck, Spencer.”
She stroked me in one jerky motion, and I almost came right then.
“What the fuck, Oxi?” Mad’s voice broke through the haze like a bucket of ice water.
Spencer jerked away from me.
Luck startled awake with a garbled sound, pushing himself up on one elbow. “Who…what…whoa. Yeah, okay, I’m not as surprised as I probably should be.”
Mad was sitting upright on Spencer’s other side, hair messy, bare chest rising and falling too fast for someone who had just woken up. His golden eyes were locked on us.
No.
Not us.
On Spencer.
Then, they finally drifted to me and down to the place her hand had been a second ago.
His expression was hard to read at first because too much moved through it too quickly. Shock, hurt, jealousy, arousal, and fear—I thought.
Spencer’s fingers flew to her swollen lips. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be.” I grabbed her wrist before she could pull too far away and pressed a kiss to her palm. “Never be sorry for kissing me.”
Her face turned even redder.
Mad’s eyes dropped to my mouth on her hand, and his nostrils flared once.
