“Whoa, not again,” he says, looking wearily at the deodorant.
It’s Day. I’d know that voice anywhere. A super tall Black guy comes in too, closing the door behind him. Must be Legend. I snap on the light. It’s weird seeing them properly for the first time after everything that happened in the woods—already knowing what they taste like. Unlike me, they’re both built like the gym is their second home. Legend has a shaved head, dark brown skin and cheekbones high enough to grate cheese on. He radiates effortless strength from the tip of his toes to the top of his head, which grazes the ceiling. Day is even broader and a couple inches shorter. His longish surfer dude blond hair and baby blue eyes fit his voice perfectly. Ridiculously, he’s wearing one of those cutaway tank tops to show off his physique even in the middle of the night. I guess dragons don’t get cold. His tanned, ripped abs peek out at the bottom hem. I drag my eyes up to his face and notice his earrings. Actually, both of them are wearing a lot of jewelry.
Because they’re dragons. They love treasure.
This is all getting very real, very fast. Seeing them in my apartment instead of the dark, creepy woods makes their weird claims harder to dismiss. I cross my arms and try to look in control. But I’m not feeling in control. I’m barely dressed, wearing only my underwear. And something about these two makes me want to curl up into a ball and let them run those big hands through my hair like I’m their pet. Ideally, both of them at once.
“What are you doing here?” I ask.
“We told you we know where you live,” Legend says.
His brown eyes look a little offended at the question. There’s no sign of neon green or vertical pupils right now. Day looks around, his cute human nose twitching animalistically. Does he like the scent of my home? My scent?
“How did you open the door?” I say.
Day holds out his hand. One of his fingers transforms into a claw. I stare, transfixed. It’s dark gray, several inches long, and looks stronger than one of my expensive kitchen knives.
“Your lock might be a little busted,” he says, without a hint of apology. “Well, aren’t you going to invite us in?”
“You’re already in. And you could’ve just knocked.”
“You mightn’t have answered,” Legend says. “I got the feeling that you were a little overwhelmed by what we had to tell you.”
He steps closer, backing me against the wall. I’m overwhelmed for a whole different reason. Legend’s dark gaze checks out my exposed body without shame. His massive shoulders loom over me and his light gray sweatpants draw my gaze too low. I forget all about being mad about the lock. I want to reach out and touch, but I don’t know if he wants that. Okay, so he’s being really flirty. Plus, he kissed me earlier. But maybe he only did that so I could taste him? To prove he’s a dragon? I look up to see his full mouth twitching with amusement.
“You can touch,” he says.
I run a hand dreamily over his waist. His muscles feel like steel. His slight intake of breath grabs at my chest. Day appears at his side, shoving him away.
“Quit hogging baby dragon,” he snarls.
Day plants a hand on the wall beside my head, caging me in. Heat creeps up my spine.
“Don’t worry, I don’t bite.” He grins, flashing white teeth. “At least, not yet.”
Not yet?
He leans closer. I shut my eyes. He kisses me, tongue probing my mouth. Slow, lazy… like he has all the time in the world. Like he’s very sure of my attraction to him. The arrogance is a turn-on. I get hotter as his other hand rests at the side of my neck. He smiles as he kisses me, gloating as he feels my pulse skittering.
“You like that, baby dragon?” he murmurs.
All I can do is nod, holding onto him like he might disappear in a puff of smoke. But he stays real, solid. He smells human, under that hint of smoke, even wearing sporty cologne. This is like a very weird dream come true. Why do these two amazing guys both want me? Maybe it’s just part of their plan to persuade me to join them as a dragon…
Day knocks lightly on my head with his knuckles.
“Quit overthinking,” he says.
“How did you know?”
“You get that little worry line between your eyes,” Legend says.
He’s laughing at me, affectionately. Day’s blond hair falls over his face as he smiles down at me too. Those crazy muscles at his side are so sculpted they belong on a museum statue. They probably have a fancy name, but I don’t know it. With both of the dragons so close, I can barely breathe.
“You look good in those glasses,” Legend purrs.
“Glasses and underwear and messy bed hair.” Day ruffles my hair, nearly making me die with happiness on the spot. “I can see that look taking off.”
“Same,” Legend says.
