I wake in a furnace. Both men are on either side of me, their limbs completely entwined with mine. I remember Cam apologizing last night, but he must have done something right with Jared for him to be here right now. Jared was more pissed than I was—am? Am I still mad? No, I know he was telling the truth. I was just angry.
Hurt.
When I try to stretch, I can’t move. “Get off.” I squirm to untangle myself. “Guys, I’m dying here,” I whine. A large hand grips my thigh, squeezing. “I gotta get up.” The hand loosens, and Cam’s body starts to unfold from mine. “Yes. Jesus, you’re hot fucks,” I whisper, crawling over him and into the bathroom.
After returning, I climb back between the two sleeping men and lie down. It’s still early enough to stay in bed for a little bit longer. I fall back asleep, and because of my shifts, I usually sleep later into the mornings. These two are up at the ass crack of dawn. It’s no surprise when there’s one set of roaming hands on me. They grip my hips, gently tugging me toward him.
His lips graze the shell of my ear. “I’m so sorry. What can I do?” Cam whispers.
“You already apologized. Just make sure whatever that was, is done. If you want to bring another person into this, we all have to agree.”
He nods in the crook of my neck. “She’s the last person I want to be around,” he admits, and I hum, sinking into his embrace. “I told her last night. About us, the three of us.”
Gasping, I spin to face him. “Really?”
He smiles. “Yeah, I was hoping it would get her to back off, but turns out, it made her, my parents, and even her parents blow up my phone. I smashed it under Jared’s knife block.” I bite my cheeks to keep from smiling, until he smirks with a chuckle and kisses me.
“So, what happens now?” His two lives have been kept separate until last night. I don’t know who she is, but it sounds like she has enough power to pull some shit over on him with his family.
“I don’t know. I guess I’ll find out tomorrow. But this…what we have right here with the three of us…I’m keeping it. This is what I don’t want to lose.”
I smile, brushing my lips over his, remembering something from last night. I was so high in my own pleasure that I only remember bits and pieces of what was happening around me.
“Did Jay hit you last night?”
Cam nods.
“You’re fucking right, I did,” Jared tiredly answers before turning over to face us. “No one gets away with hurting you, especially him. I expect the same if I do something fucking stupid.”
I chuckle, turning to kiss him.
“Good morning to you, too,” I murmur on his lips before turning to lie on my back. A change is happening. This is becoming real. The three of us. Jared and I have been real. We’ve been solid. But this is different.
I think Cam needed to be sure of his choice. Last night forced him to make that decision. It’s out in the open now for everyone, not just the people we’re around the most.
“Tell me something I don’t know about you,” I ask. It’s time to start getting to know each other differently. Better. Deeper. And really, I’m doing this for them too.
“I wanted to be a veterinarian when I was a kid. I loved animals and wanted to take care of them.”
I side-eye Cam. “Really? You love animals like that?” He nods like it’s still true.
“I lived like I was going to do it, until my parents dangled my tuition and trust fund over my head. I had to go to law school.”
My jaw clenches at the fury his remark sends through me. “Stellar fucking parenting.”
“Yeah, well, I did everything they wanted. Now, I have the money and the license to do whatever the fuck I want.”
“I guess as long as you’re happy, it worked out,” I mumble.
“It led me here. So yeah, it worked out.” He scrunches his face. “I hate spiders, though.”
“People have spiders as pets, Cam.”
The bed shakes with his shiver, making us laugh. “I’ll never understand it. They are creepy.”
“I’ve never been in a relationship,” Jared says next.
“Really?” I turn my head to him. He’s such a good partner. But knowing what he went through with his mother, I can understand it—him not wanting to get close to anyone.
