“Hello?”

Noah, gruff as usual, ignored the pleasantries and jumped right in.

“Are you available for personal appointments?”

Flustered, I repeated:

“Personal appointments?”

“Yeah. Like, do you take clients outside of the jail?”

I did, but looking back at Luke still nestled in my bed, I knew what my answer needed to be.

“I don’t have any availability at the moment, and I don’t think it would be ethically right to see you or Anthony privately. I have some colleagues, though, that could help. I can send you their contacts, if that works.”

I had done plenty of ethically questionable things since meeting Noah, but if Luke wanted to get better, I wanted to be better for him, too. This was for the best.

Noah grumbled a halfhearted thanks before hanging up. As soon as he did, I lowered the phone and began going through my contacts, copying them, and then dropping them into the text chain I had with Noah. Once I was done, I planned to block and delete his contact. They deserved their peace, and cutting off all access would be the best way.

As soon as I sent the message, I got a ‘Thanks.’ In response, I deleted the message chain and blocked his contact.

All the while, I mentally wished him well.

I turned to head back to my bed so I could curl up with my pet monster, only to find him already lurking behind me. One eye was still squeezed shut, the other just barely open. His bright red hair was mussed around his head in an endearing tornado. He yawned, idly scratching his stomach.

“Get a call? Was it work?”

I chuckled, letting my arms snake around his waist.

Reflexively, he fell into me, nestling his face into my neck like a cuddly dog.

Humming, I responded:

“Yep. Just work.”

His arms came up to my upper back, one of his hands teasing the hair at the nape of my neck. He was nearly the same size as me, so to cuddle into me like this, he had to bend down quite a bit, forcing his back to arch outward. It gave me quite the satisfying view of his still-nude body.

I pressed my finger into the nape of his neck, and then let it trail all the way down his spine until I reached the very top of the cleft of his ass. I wanted nothing more than to take him back to bed and carry on with our fun, and Luke seemed to be thinking the same as his lips began pressing into my shoulder, his teeth occasionally grazing the flesh there, too.

But the day had just begun.

It was our first day officially back together, and it was the start of the rest of our lives.

We had work to do.

Patting his back with loud, fleshy sounds, I cleared my throat.

"First thing's first. Let's go to your hotel room and pick up what’s left of your stuff."

He growled, finally digging his teeth into my skin. It burned and, no doubt, left a mark. Luke punctuated it with another growl:

"Then we have sex?"

I shook my head, running my hands through his hair to smooth it out.

"No. Then we start job hunting. For you."

He wilted against me, spewing playful grumbles, all the while his hands steadily made their way down to my ass.
