By the time they’d finished the ninth hole and tallied up their scores, her adrenaline was buzzing through her veins, making her feel lightheaded. He placed his warm palm on the small of her back as they went into the clubhouse to return her rental clubs, and her skin sizzled from his heat.

“Good game?” Jonathan asked.

“Great game,” Bryce said, looking at her instead of him.

They went back outside, her heart pounding as she prepared to reveal the rest of her surprise.

“Now what? Should we go home?” he asked, looking unsure.

She reached up and cupped his cheek, not caring who was around to see. “We’re not going home.”

“We’re not?”

She shook her head. “We’re staying here at the resort. I booked us a room.”

He swallowed hard, and she wanted to kiss his Adam’s apple as it bobbed in his throat. “You booked us a room?” he repeated as if he hadn’t heard correctly.

“Is that okay?”

“Hell yes, it’s okay.”

His enthusiasm made her stomach flutter along with a few other parts of her anatomy. “Good. I also made dinner reservations for us, so we should probably go to the room and change.”

He glanced down at his golf clothes, still in a state of disbelief. “I don’t have…”

“I packed a bag for you. I hope you don’t mind that I had to go into your bedroom to do it.”

“Wow. You really thought of everything.”

“I tried to.”

“Where’d you park?”

“At the resort. I walked here.”

“So, you can ride back there with me.”

“Yes.”

They started walking toward the parking lot, and he reached for her hand and threaded their fingers together.

“Okay?” he asked, glancing down at their hands.

“More than okay,” she replied. It’s perfect.

Chapter 30

Bryce and Chloe rode the elevator in silence, mainly because they weren’t alone. If they had been, he envisioned pushing her up against the wall and kissing the hell out of her. Desire coursed through his veins, and he couldn’t wait to get her alone. When the elevator reached their floor, he reminded himself that this was her show and he needed to let her lead.

“Where to?” he asked, his throat tight as he followed her down the hall.

“Last room on the right,” she said over her shoulder.

He admired the sway of her hips in her golf skort and smiled at the thought of her buying it specifically for today. The fact that she’d shown such an interest in one of his favorite sports ramped up his desire even more.

She stopped at their room, slipped the card key out of her pocket, and swiped it through the reader. The green light flicked on, and he took it to mean so much more than it did. The idea that she’d done all this to be with him was almost more than he could take in and more than he deserved.

“Here we are,” she said after they’d stepped inside and he’d shut the door behind them.
