“By herself?”

“Yes.”

“Go on.”

“She happened to be seated next to this really good-looking guy.”

“Uh-oh. I see where this is going.”

“Stop interrupting the story.”

“Sorry. Please continue.”

“Anyway, it was a night flight, so the plane was dark, and a lot of passengers were sleeping.”

He’d set down his spoon and clasped his hands underneath his chin, looking enraptured by the story. Suddenly she wished she’d chosen a less titillating story to tell, but since she’d gone this far…

“When the flight attendant came around with blankets, they each took one and spread them over their laps.”

His eyes took on a glazed look, and she considered stopping right there, but he motioned with his hand for her to continue.

“So, Lacy and this stranger made out under the blankets on an airplane full of people.”

“By ‘made out,’ what do you mean, exactly?”

She shook her head. “You know what it means.” Averting her eyes, she scooped up the last bite of mashed potatoes.

“What happened afterward?”

She dabbed her mouth with a napkin. “Well, here’s the really crazy part. They never exchanged names or numbers, and the next day, she went into the interview, and—”

“He was the guy she made out with!”

“Yep.”

“Did she get the job?”

“What do you think?”

“Yes, and she was so good at it she became the vice president of the company!”

“Wrong!”

“She didn’t get it?”

He looked so disappointed that she had to laugh. “Oh, she was offered the position, but she didn’t take it. She was too mortified about what had happened on the plane to accept the job. Plus, she was worried he only offered it to her because of what she did.”

“Which was what, exactly?”

“Beck!”

“C’mon, Jen. Just tell me.”

“She…um…you know…” Then she picked up her spoon, put it to her mouth, and slowly sucked off the remaining potatoes until it was licked clean.

HUGE mistake! When she set down the spoon and glanced at him, he looked like he was about to leap over the table at her.

They finished eating in silence, and then Jenna pushed back her chair and started gathering their empty plates.
