He started coming.

In his pants.

Like the pathetic asshole he’d become.

He kept his eyes on Chaya until she disappeared into her apartment building.

Thank fuck for tinted windows.

He looked down at himself with disgust. Even if he could have Chaya, he didn’t know if he was strong enough for her. Not anymore.

How long could he hide this weakness?

Chaya hit the number that had been programmed into her phone and held her breath. After her run-in with Chaos, she was more determined than ever to join the fight. Yes, she got where he was coming from. But these demi weren’t untrained fools. They were organized, skilled. They knew what they were doing.

“Chaya?” Grace answered, voice strong confident.

Chaya tried for the same. “I’ve made my decision.” Nerves fluttered behind her ribs, but she ignored them. “I’m in. I’m going to The Dungeon tonight as a voyeur.”

There was music in the background, some movement then it quietened down, like Grace had changed rooms. “The main priority is always your safety. Always. You are there to observe only. Get a lay of the land. See who’s there. If Victor’s there, who he associates with. I want you to turn on the GPS on your phone so we can keep track of you. If you change location let me know. And I want regular check-in times. Anything happens that you don’t like, you get out of there. If for some reason you can’t, message me, and we’ll come for you. If you can’t do that and you miss your check-in, we’ll come for you. Understand?”

Her nerves tried to fight their way forward again, and Chaya fought them back. “Yes.”

“Excellent. Message me with the details for tonight and I’ll make sure someone is keeping track of you.”

Chaya straightened her shoulders. “Thanks.”

“And Chaya?”

“Yes?”

“Good luck.”

Chaya kept her head down as she walked through the grand foyer of The Valencia. The place screamed money—shit, it dripped from the walls. She felt insanely out of place. Stepping into the elevator, she hit the button for the private club located in the penthouse suite.

As she ascended, she fired off a text to Grace that she’d arrived, and then took a moment to try and calm her out-of-control nerves.

You can do this. You have to do this.

For all the demi yet to go through the transition. For the ones who had lost their lives to the demons constantly stalking them.

And if, while she was there, she learned a thing or two about the way Brent’s mind worked, the world he was determined to keep her out of, well, that would be a bonus. Because after that car ride earlier, God, her skin still tingled. She tried to stay pissed off at him, to not want him, but there was this thing between them that was so strong. Jesus, she wished she could ignore it but she couldn’t.

It had taken an hour for her pulse to slow and the throbbing ache between her thighs to lessen. If her first assignment also taught her a thing or two about the man she wanted, she’d use every bit of that knowledge. Then maybe she could prove to him that she was more than capable of fulfilling his needs, all of them.

The elevator doors slid open, and with trembling hands she showed her pass card to the attendant waiting at the door. He grinned down at her but didn’t comment on her obvious nerves. She guessed most were nervous their first time, which definitely worked in her favor.

He took her coat, and she smoothed her hands over the leather covering her hips and straightened her shoulders.

There’s nothing to worry about. The place is full of people.

Plus, she could leave anytime she liked. She was there because she chose to be. No one was holding a gun to her head.

He opened the door for her and Chaya walked in.
