That night, eight months of preparation paid off in spades.
Everything went down like fucking clockwork.
It started off with me in the same SUV as Ciro and Cesare. We were sitting outside the mistress’s apartment in Vomero, along with a bunch of our guys in half a dozen other vehicles.
Just after ten o’clock, a call from Giulietta came through.
I so badly wanted to answer it – but I knew I couldn’t. Not with Cesare just a few feet away.
I let it go to voicemail and read the transcript.
Hey… I worked something out for tomorrow night. Call me back.
My heart soared.
You see, asshole? She loves you!
It’s all going to work out okay!
I texted her back, GREAT! I’ll talk to you tomorrow!
A few seconds later, she sent another text.
Are you okay?
Totally okay now that you’re coming with me. Just can’t talk at the moment.
She hearted my text and replied, I love you.
I texted back, I love you, too.
“Who the fuck’s that?” Cesare barked from the backseat.
“Just Ciccio asking if Luciano was here yet,” I said as I pocked the cell phone.
“Tell him to do his fuckin’ job and stop texting!”
“Already done.”
I went back to sitting in the SUV and waiting.
All I had to do was get through tonight.
Then it would all be over…
And I could start a new life with the woman I loved.
Luciano showed up at 11, just like Lucrezia had predicted.
Like a total dumbass, he only came with two bodyguards. He left one of them out front to guard the building.
Meanwhile, Cicciobello and his team crushed it in Posillipo. After they killed all the bodyguards, they tied up Luciano’s wife and kids and called me to let me know it was done.
That’s when the rest of the dominos began to fall.
Once the street was deserted, Toro’s girlfriend Carmela came out of the building.
