“Yes! Wanna go play games?”
“You know it. Go grab your shoes so we can head out.”
He slid down off the couch and ran to his room.
India finally moved from the door, and I got a chance to get a good look at what she had on, a pair of pajama shorts and a wife-beater with no bra.
“That’s how you walk around when he home?”
“Comfortable? Yes.”
She stood in front of me with her arms folded across her chest.
“Mmhmm.”
“What?” She smirked. “You got a problem with what I wear now?”
I shrugged. “Nah.”
“Daddy.” Baby Jay came rushing back into the living room with his sneakers. “My shoes.”
“Okay. Go grab the charger for your iPad too.”
He headed back toward his room. The second he disappeared, India locked in on me again.
“You don’t have to leave right away,” she said, running her hand down my neck.
I laughed under my breath, pulling my head back so that her hand could drop from my neck. She’d showed her hand.
“So, Jamison really been asking for me?”
Her face changed.
“Yeah.”
“Aight.”
She scrunched her face up. “Why you say it like that?”
“Like what? Like I think him asking for me worked out real convenient for you?”
I called a spade a spade.
“Why would I make up your son asking for you?”
“Ion know. Why would you?”
She looked me up and down.
“You been actin’ real brand new. Real corny.”
“I’m corny now ‘cause I ain’t tryna fuck you, India?”
Her face hardened the same way it had at her mother’s house the first time I turned her down. She wasn’t hurt, but she was definitely offended. Me turning her down the first time was one thing; a second time had solidified that I wasn’t on that no more.
“No, I find it corny that you’re switching up.”
“You just said the same thing I said. Your statement is just dressed up.”
