“Mannn, go ‘head.” He dapped me up then nudged Baby Jay. “Wassup, lil’ man? You ready to get your hair cut?”

Baby Jay looked up at him and nodded, standing.

“Aight. Jay, this is the new barber, Morgan. Morgan, this Jay and his sons.”

“Wassup?” Morgan let out, voice light and feminine.

“What’s good?”

“Why you lookin’ at me like that?” she asked.

“Like what?”

“Like you tryna figure me out or sumthin’.” She laughed lightly.

“I ain’t gon’ lie. I kinda am. I’m tryna figure out how they gon’ keep the line of hoes outta here once they find out you got that last seat.” I cracked a genuine smile.

“I’m just here to do what I love,” she replied smoothly before walking over to her chair.

“She nice too,” Dre cosigned, headed over to his booth and setting it up for Baby Jay. “Been cutting hair for a minute. Done made a name for herself.”

“She already got the job, bruh. I don’t think she need more gassing up,” I joked.

“Mann, shut up.” He laughed. “Come on, lil’ man. Aye, Jay, why don’t you let Morgan hook you up, while I get lil’ man squared away? That way you ain’t gotta sit around and wait on him to get finished.”

I looked over at Morgan setting up her station then back at Dre.

“Now you know I don’t let just anybody cut me. No offense to you, shorty.”

“Hey,” she shrugged, “none taken. You ain’t used to the best. I ain’t trippin’.”

“Hol’ up, youngin’,” Dre said, making us all laugh.

“Oh, yeah, she’s gonna make a great addition.” Duke snickered.

Justin covered the bottom half of his face to stifle his laugh.

I stood and walked over to her. “You cocky. You just might be nice wit’ it.”

“I ain’t beggin’ to convince you. You gettin’ cut or what? I got a client in thirty minutes.”

“Aight, Young M.A. You fuck my shit up, your reputation will be the least of your worries.”

She grinned, pointing at the chair for me to sit.

“Y’all do know Young M.A. ain’t the poster child for all studs, right?”

“Yeah, but she the only one of them I know by name. Line me up.”

I watched Morgan’s every move as she cut my hair, and by her precision, I knew she was passionate about this shit. Twenty-five minutes later, she was done. I had to give it to her. She was talented.

Getting up from the chair, I ran my hand over my beard, turning my head from side to side.

“Aight.”

Morgan chuckled on the side of me, cleaning her blades.

“Aight what?”
