He rolled his eyes, lips quirking. “Yeah, I’ll even let you blow your load in my mouth and swallow it.”
“Then I’ll stay in here for as long as it takes.”
“Good boy.” He winked at me, and I slapped him on the ass when he turned to walk away.
“I’m not your boy.”
Madden laughed and left the room.
Half an hour later, I heard a knock on the door, and Madden’s cheerful voice filled the apartment. He greeted whoever it was, and a rough male voice I wasn’t familiar with answered him. They chatted about something to do with zoning, and I immediately turned up the TV and tuned them out, paying attention to the segment about stingrays on the Great Barrier Reef, and how Steve Irwin was killed by one.
Another fifteen minutes went by and the voices outside the door grew louder. Madden laughed in an almost seductive way that had my gut roiling in surprised jealousy. There wasn’t anything fake about that enticing sound, and curiosity had me pushing myself to my feet. My bladder was full anyway, and while there was a bathroom connected to Madden’s bedroom, I decided going to piss was a good excuse to find out who he had a meeting with.
Opening the door, I stepped out as though I’d forgotten there was anyone else in the apartment. I’d planned to stop in surprise, apologize, and head to the bathroom, but it worked out that I didn’t need to pretend to be surprised when I saw King, president of the Kings of Men MC, sitting on the chair opposite Madden at the kitchen bar.
Madden turned toward me, irritation creasing his forehead.
“Well, hello,” King said, his steely blue gaze sliding down my body in a way that would have made me uncomfortable a few weeks ago. “Madden, I can see why you didn’t want to meet up anymore. Have you been hiding this secret from me? You could have at least shared him.”
“I don’t fuck criminals,” I snapped before I could stop myself.
Madden stood abruptly and the chair wobbled behind him. “Evan, I thought I asked you to stay in my room?”
“I needed to piss.” I shrugged then grimaced at the sharp reminder that I was injured, as though I could forget, even with the painkillers.
“There’s an en suite in the bedroom,” Madden said through gritted teeth, although he forced a smile on his face.
“A what now?” I glanced at King, who smirked and leaned back in his chair, arms crossed.
“You could at least introduce me.” He cocked his head, his stare eating up my current disheveled state. I’d forgotten that I’d dressed in sweatpants this morning because they were easier to get on and off.
“I’m a cop,” I snapped, and Madden’s face paled. “If you don’t remember me, I had your ass in a headlock.”
King’s eyebrows rose. “You’re that guy?”
“He’s… my boyfriend.” Madden sounded unsure and he looked back to King. “Lover. Boyfriend. I don’t know. He knows nothing about my work, or what we do for you, King. He was injured on duty and he’s needed someone to take care of him, which is why he’s here.” He smiled in a way I could only call charming. “You know how it is. If they’re a good screw, it’s worth the risk.”
King laughed, and I felt my cheeks burning in embarrassment. The urge to tell them I wasn’t gay was stupid because clearly I was something.
“Better in bed than me, huh?” King teased.
“I have a thing for emotionally unavailable men.” Madden glanced at me. “Evan, I have work to do.” The biting tone made me move without another word. I turned on my heel and went back to the room, slamming the door behind myself. I felt like a boy who’d been lectured by his parent, and it shouldn’t have annoyed me. It had been a childish move, when he’d already specifically told me to stay away from his client.
I sighed and headed to the bathroom. I pissed, then filled up his massive bathtub spa with water. Taking the time to shed myself of my shirt, then my pants, I stepped into the warmness of the bath and sat down, making sure not to wet my bandages. Madden would lose his shit. His care of my injury had become important to him.
Eyes closed, I enjoyed the heat on my relaxing muscles. I’d never had a bath big enough to do this before, and I’d found myself quickly becoming addicted to the quiet, relaxing time. I didn’t know how long I sat there before the door opened and Madden stepped into the room. He leaned against the marble counter, arms crossed and missing his suit coat. All he wore was his white dress shirt and black pants.
“Enjoy your glimpse of my client, did you?” Madden cocked his head, and there wasn’t a trace of anger in his voice, not like I expected.
I studied him, trying to figure out just how annoyed he was, but he seemed relaxed. “Wanted to know who made you laugh like that.”
“Like what?” He frowned.
“Like that. Like you were flirting.” I turned away and stared at my toes peeking out from above the water.
“I wasn’t flirting.”
“Yeah, you were.” My hands curled into fists beneath the water, away from his sight. “I don’t give a shit anyway. If you want to go fuck King, do it.”
