“What happened with your visitor?” Eli asks Cyrus.

“He left not long ago.”

“Damn, I was hoping you killed him,” Eli mutters, and I glare at him.

“You shouldn’t wish death on anybody. What is wrong with you?”

“I don’t know, Addie. What would be wrong with me? I have a disobedient mate, one who likes to sneak around with other men and, to top it off, who was sneaking around with him in my house.”

“He is a friend, for the hundredth time,” I snap at him, sick of repeating myself.

“Yeah, one that was balls deep in you for years.”

“Like you can talk… How many people have you been with?” I demand since they seem so fascinated with my sexual past.

“Didn’t count, but I have never snuck around on my mates as you did.”

“We didn’t do anything, just sat around talking.”

“You may not have, but he did. Exactly the reason you won’t be seeing him anymore. I mean it, Addie. I catch him here again, and I will lock you in this room.”

“You can’t do that. Cyrus, help. You said he could visit,” I say, turning to him.

“No, you need to cut all ties with Sam. Eli is right. No more, Addie,” Cyrus tells me.

“He won’t be a problem. The organization is looking for him. He won’t be here much longer,” Eli says.

“The organization?”

“Yes, Samuel breached both the hunters’ organization’s and the supernatural council’s laws. He isn’t meant to be here, and you are lucky he is your friend, or we would have killed him. We are well within our rights to, seeing that he stepped on our property and touched our mate without the council’s go-ahead.”

“You wouldn’t,” I gasp, horrified.

Would they kill someone for visiting a friend?

“Oh, I will if he shows up here again. You contact him in any way, I mean it. I will hunt the bastard down and make you watch when I rip him to pieces,” Eli says, taking a step forward, and I take one back.

“You are ours. I don’t want you anywhere near him, Addie. This is your last warning. I see you with him, and you won’t like the consequences.”

“But he is meant to be coming back tomorrow.”

“He will be gone by then, hopefully. If not, he dies, simple as that,” he says, storming out of the room.

Cyrus follows after him, and I can hear them talking in hushed voices as I follow them downstairs. Eli goes back to the basement, and when I try to go down and speak to him, I find the door locked, which makes me suspicious.

What are they hiding down there that they feel the need to lock me out?

I am not sure, but I am planning to find out, even if it means waiting up all night for them to fall asleep.

I don’t hear from Sam for the rest of the day, and I know it is because Eli has refused to unblock him from my phone. Eli remains in the basement doing god knows what while Cyrus hovers all day, refusing to answer my many questions.

Logging into Facebook on my phone while I prepare dinner, I have to hide the smile that creeps onto my face when I see a message from Sam. The smile instantly slips off my face when I read it.

Sam: You need to get out, Addie. Get out of there and away from them. I have no idea what they planned with the council, but I can no longer help you. If I can get away, I will come for you.
