Two recovering addicts whose actions almost destroyed the company? They’d have to be insane to let us play together again.
So when I step into the conference room to meet with the new group I’ve been assigned to, I’m shocked to see Quinn sitting there. I know for a fact he didn’t jump ship like Kellen and David. They’d have to pry him from Tuesday’s side, but maybe they did.
“Hey,” I say.
He glances up from his phone. “Hey!” He smiles. “Welcome back to the team.”
“The team?”
“Yeah? Did they not tell you?”
“Tell me what?”
“You’re joining us again on tour again. Becoming an official member, even.”
“Us?”
“Tuesday and me?”
“Tuesday.” I laugh. “I’ve been assigned to play for Tuesday?”
“With,” Tuesday corrects, strolling in. I take in her long, blonde hair tied in two pigtails. She wears tight, black jeans and a white crop top. “The other two play for us, but you are an official member.”
“You’re a solo artist.”
“Not anymore. Now Tuesday Blue is a democracy. I’m still queen, don’t get it wrong, but consider yourselves parliament.”
“Okay.” I laugh. “So, your highness, what’s the first order of business?”
“We need to find a drummer and a rhythm guitarist I haven’t fucked.” She sighs. “We have a few options, but I think we need to have some music for them to use to audition with. I don’t want to get stuck with idiots who can’t play up to our standards.”
“I can’t stay long,” Quinn says.
“Yeah, yeah.” Tuesday rolls her eyes. “He has a girlfriend now, can you believe it?”
“Does she hate you?”
“No. She is actually super nice.” Tuesday shrugs. “But she takes up all his time.”
“We let you tag along,” Quinn says with a shrug.
“Like a third wheel. It’s utterly humiliating.” Tuesday slips into a chair. “Sit,” she orders, pointing to the chair beside her. “I think we both know I don’t bite.”
I slide into the chair beside her.
My body feels on edge. Words I want to say. Memories I want to go away. Things I want to do, all dance around my mind.
Tuesday shows me the people we have to pick from. I have my favorites, but I don’t say anything to her about them. I honestly don’t care who ends up being our drummer or rhythm guitarist. I’m still shocked that they are going to let me play with her.
That’s all I wanted. Now that’s happening, I’m not sure what to do about it. I keep waiting to wake up, or be told it was all some sick joke. Maybe she is still out to destroy me, and this is how she plans on doing it.
Quinn and her talk over background music as I aimlessly flip through the few pieces of paper she gave me.
“Well, I’m going to go. Meeting Tay for lunch.”
“Coming back after?” Tuesday asks.
“Probably not, but you can swing by later.”
