He stiffened. Just barely, but I felt it.
Something in my chest went cold.
"Is something wrong?" I asked, pausing, watching his eyes dart to the side. He couldn't look at me.
"You know doggy is my favorite, Ang," he muttered.
The word made my stomach turn. Doggy.
"Just… just let me hit it from the back," he said, hand already moving to turn me.
I stopped him. Placed my hand on his chest and forced him to meet my eyes.
That's not his favorite.
His favorite was me on top. Always had been. He liked to watch. Said he loved when I took what I needed. Said I looked like art.
But now he couldn't even look at me.
"We'll save that for round two," I said, trying to sound sexy and flirty instead of wounded. "I wanna look you in the eyes when I come."
Because I needed to look him in the eyes. Needed to remind myself that this was the man I'd chosen. That my body still belonged here.
That Maleek hadn't ruined me.
Gavin didn't respond. Not right away. His hands fell away from my hips.
Then—
"Angie…"
I waited.
"Your body is… different. Since the last time we had sex."
I blinked. "My body is… different?"
The words didn't make sense at first. Like he'd just insulted me in another language and my brain had to translate it.
"Am I ugly to you now, Gavin?"
"No. No, that's not what I meant," he said quickly, looking anywhere but at me. "It's just… you've had four pregnancies."
I froze.
And he just kept talking.
"That shit changes a woman's body, Angie. It's normal for things to be… different after a while."
It's normal.
As if I was the problem.
As if I hadn't carried his children. As if I hadn't buried them.
"Don't get emotional," he added, reaching for me again. "Just bend it over so I can—"
"Get out."
