“So do I.”

“Find out how he knows.”

“Planning to.” Then she's gone, hauled across the lawn by a five-year-old on a mission.

Megan watches them for a second. “She's good with her.”

“Yeah.”

“Tilly talks about her constantly.”

I look over in surprise. “Constantly?”

Megan gives me a look. “Jake. I know what Liv had for breakfast on Tuesday.”

I laugh.

“Apparently Liv doesn't like the way you cut sandwiches, your pancakes are still terrible, she can draw unicorns better than you and she knows how to do Tilly's hair properly.”

“I've been doing her hair for five years.”

“And apparently you've learned nothing.”

“Jesus.”

Megan smiles and picks up the box again. “She’s good for Tilly.”

I look across the lawn. Liv has reached Ben now and is standing beside Tilly, staring at whatever he's holding with an expression of complete disbelief.

“She's good for me too.”

“I know.”

I glance at Megan.

She shrugs. “You have the face.”

For fuck's sake. “What face?”

“You know the face.”

“Apparently everyone knows about this fucking face except me.”

“Pretty much.” She shifts the box against her hip. “I'm going to take these over to Wren.”

“Need a hand?”

“I've got it.”

“All right.”

She starts away, then looks back. “I'm glad you two worked it out.”

“Me too.”

“See you later.”

“See ya.” And that's that. No awkwardness. No weird ex-wife-girlfriend standoff. Nobody throws a drink or storms off. Slightly disappointing, really. Luca would've enjoyed the drama.
