It was about wanting him in my space, to see what he’d look like there, without interruptions or witnesses.
But I have rules. I built them. Carefully.
And tonight I was about to break one.
Quinn hadn’t cornered me. I hadn’t lost control.
I’d made a decision, and I knew what lay behind it.
I don’t want to stop.
I want him.
We reached my building, and I took the stairs, Quinn following, so quiet. I paused at the front door, the key in my hand.
Cross this line, and everything shifts.
I turned to him. “Last chance.”
He stared at me. “To leave?”
“Yes.”
Quinn didn’t break eye contact. “I don’t want to.”
Something in my chest tightened, and I unlocked the door.
Quinn
Max’s flat smelled faintly of cedar and clean linen. It was exactly as I expected it to be. Nothing out of place, no cups on the coffee table, magazines stacked neatly in a pile, not even a hint of dust.
It suited him.
He closed the door behind us, then set his keys down on the hall table. He removed his jacket.
For God’s sake, touch me.
“Shoes off,” he said. “Jacket too.”
My pulse jumped, but I did as I was told.
He stepped closer and tilted my chin with a couple of fingers. He brushed his thumb slowly along my lower lip. The breath caught in my throat when he slid his hand from my jaw to the back of my neck. He was so close that our lips were almost touching.
Almost.
The hairs on my arms stood on end.
“You wanted to see how far I’d go,” he murmured.
“Yes.”
His mouth hovered a fraction from mine.
“This far,” he whispered.
And then he took my mouth in a searing kiss.
