When she stabbed me.
My legs are heavy, the muscles sore as I inch closer to them. The chair legs catch my eye. They are bolted to the floor with metal brackets, rendering them immobile. Color me intrigued.
I stop beside Olivia. Her chest rises and falls with each slow, shallow breath. It’s the only movement coming from her limp body. Her arms and hands have multiple scrapes and bruises. A lock of her dark hair falls in front of her face, and my hand reaches out to twirl it between my fingers.
So soft.
So delicate.
Just like her.
“Time to go, princess,” I whisper to her and reach into my pocket and pull out my switch blade. I bend down to start cutting the tie from her wrist.
“I wouldn’t do that.” The threat comes from behind me.
Her voice tears through me like a hurricane, stealing the air from my lungs. I let go of Olivia’s wrist and stand. When I turn around, Nika saunters into the room. She’s wearing a black sundress that stops mid-thigh and knee length boots to match.
I didn’t believe in ghosts—until now.
My eyes narrow and I point the knife in her direction. “I killed you,” I mutter in disbelief.
She tilts her head. “You never were very thorough. Didn’t even check for a pulse.”
My fucking eye twitches and I contemplate throwing this knife into hers. I wouldn’t need to check for a pulse if the blade goes straight into her brain.
She’s like the flea you can’t get rid of. The itch you know you shouldn’t scratch, but when you do it feels so fucking good. But she was nothing but an interference. Fucking her cunt was what sent me over the edge. I did something I swore I never would after I was inside Olivia. That she would be the only pussy I would claim from now on. Mine.
A deep groan pulls my attention to the very large man in the chair beside me. He moves slightly, his fingers flexing. When I turn back to Nika, she smiles menacingly.
“How the fuck did you get him in here?” I ask completely baffled, looking up and down at her tiny frame.
She practically skips towards me, eyes alight with mirth. “You don’t remember?”
Glass shattering.
A car horn.
I winch at the stabbing pain in my head, gripping the knife tighter.
“What the fuck,” he mumbles.
My head snaps towards the self-righteous bastard and a smile tugs at my lips. He yanks on his restrained arms before meeting my gaze. Fear crashes into him when he looks at Olivia and he violently tries to get out of the chair.
It doesn’t even budge.
“I am going to fucking kill you!” he seethes.
I fully turn to face him, a low chuckle escaping my throat. “With the current predicament that you’re in… that’s just an idle threat.”
He growls at me, barring his teeth like the trapped animal that he is. He throws his body weight back into the chair. Again, it doesn’t move. His frustration grows while his face reddens and his veins bulge.
“Let her go!” he demands.
“That’s the last thing I’m going to do.” I take a step towards him. “I’m going to take what’s mine.”
“She’s not yours,” he spits.
“She doesn’t want you,” Nika interrupts.
