“That came later.”

“It did.”

“So there was something before that.”

Her eyes narrowed. “You’re nosy.”

“I’ve been told.”

“By me.”

“More than once.”

She laughed softly and looked back down at her glass.

“My plans changed,” she said. “That’s all.”

“Fair enough.”

I took a drink of water instead.

The food arrived a few minutes later, and whatever had settled over the table disappeared the second Luna looked down at her plate.

“Oh, yeah.”

I laughed. “You haven’t even tasted it yet.”

“I can tell.”

“From looking at it?”

She stared at me. “You’re exhausting.”

“And yet you came to eat with me.”

Her fork stopped halfway to her plate.

I hadn’t meant anything by it.

At least, I didn’t think I had.

Then one corner of her mouth lifted. “You asked.”

“And you said yes.”

“I was hungry.”

“Of course.”

She shook her head and took her first bite.

“I’m eating eggs.”

“What does that have to do with anything?”

“Nothing about this is weird.”

Her eyes closed for half a second.
