“She kept calling back.”
“I like her already.”
“You haven’t met her.”
“Doesn’t matter.”
I shook my head, but I was smiling when I made the next turn.
I pulled into the driveway a few minutes later.
The house was brick with dark shutters and a flower bed running beneath the front windows. I recognized it from the address Mrs. Harris gave me, but before I could check the number again, the front door opened.
“There she go,” I said.
Luna looked over. “She was waiting?”
“Apparently.”
Mrs. Harris stepped onto the porch as I parked.
“You weren’t lying.”
“I told you.”
“She really was waiting.”
I cut the engine and reached behind my seat for the box.
Luna grabbed her bag.
“You coming in?”
She looked at me. “I thought that was established when I left your house.”
I laughed. “Come on.”
By the time we made it up the walkway, Mrs. Harris was holding the door open.
“Right on time.”
“Three o’clock,” I told her.
“I know. I’ve been watching out the window since two forty-five.”
Luna laughed beside me.
Mrs. Harris looked at her for the first time.
“Well, hello.”
“Hi.”
“This is Luna,” I said. “My girlfriend.”
“Nice to meet you.”
“You too.”
