Trust me.
Two ordinary words.
There was no reason for them to sit differently than the rest of his message.
But they did.
I read them again before answering.
How much is a little?
Enough to stop asking what to do with your hands every five seconds.
My mouth fell open.
I have never asked you what to do with my hands.
Not yet.
I narrowed my eyes at the phone.
You seem very confident about this.
Occupational experience. Everybody forgets they’ve had hands their entire life as soon as a camera comes out.
A laugh escaped me before I could stop it.
Fine. I’ll try to trust you a little.
The typing bubble appeared.
That’s all I need.
I looked at the message longer than I needed to.
“Nothing, huh?”
I locked my phone.
Naomi was still watching me.
“What?”
“You’re smiling.”
“I laugh all the time.”
“I said smiling.”
“Go make somebody a latte.”
She turned away, but not before I caught the smile she was trying to hide.
I shook my head and put my phone facedown beside the keyboard.
A few minutes later, Rachel replied to my email.
I opened that one first.
