“I think I've handled the situation quite well, don't you think?”

The unspoken “situation you dumped on me” is implied. At least he has the grace to flush.

There is a pause before he answers. “You’ve had one successful day.”

“One very successful day.”

“With a client who could still become a problem if you mishandle the transaction.”

I tilt my head. “Then it’s fortunate I won’t mishandle it.”

His jaw tightens slightly. “Confidence is useful, Blair. Overconfidence is not.”

“I agree.”

Something in my tone makes his eyes narrow.

I give him a pleasant smile. “Which is why I’m going to keep doing exactly what’s worked so far.”

Randall observes me for a moment. “Mr. Conti is no ordinary client, and I’ll be monitoring this transaction closely.”

“Of course.”

Finally, he sets the paper down. “How did you get access to the penthouse?”

“I found the seller’s broker and made the case that it was worth allowing the showing.”

“Who gave you the contact?”

“I'm not required to say.”

His lips tighten again.

I almost smile.

Randall had wanted me isolated. No listings. No contacts. No help.

I don't know what it is about me that he's hated from the start, and Diego wanting me to show him houses yesterday definitely didn't help. I know he was just waiting for me to fail.

It makes my victory so much sweeter knowing how much it pisses him off.

He looks down at the paperwork again, essentially dismissing me. “Keep me informed.”

“I will.”

I stand.

“Blair.”

I pause.

His gaze comes back to me. “Don’t let one successful showing go to your head.”

There it is.

I almost laugh.

Instead, I smile politely. “Wouldn’t dream of it.”
