“I’m not leaving!” she giggles. “I promise.”
I press another kiss to her cheek, fucking speeding into the bathroom so I can shower and get back to her, but I find myself staring in the mirror for a beat too long.
I don’t know what the hell just happened, but that was better than any scenario I could have ever dreamed of. I have a hard time wiping the smile off my face as I take the quickest shower ever, opening the door and seeing she made herself comfortable in my living room, just how it was meant to be.
CHAPTER ELEVEN
There are arms wrapped around me as soon as I wake up. I’m confused for only a second until I remember what happened last night.
I kissed my best friend, and I loved every minute of it. He literally swept me off my feet when I tried to go home yesterday. He carried me to bed after we ate dinner and watched my favorite movie.
And now, I’m here, listening to his alarm go off as he grumbles into my shoulder.
“Please don’t make me get up and leave your warmth.”
His hair is all messy as I flip around, facing him and that beautiful smile he always points in my direction. “You have to work, but if you’d like, I'll come back before you’re off and make you dinner. How does that sound?”
He nuzzles into my chest, one of his shirts covering my body as he tries getting as close to me as he can.
“That sounds like a plan.” He presses a kiss to my chest, then my neck, and then he smiles into my lips, his mouth on mine how it was so many times last night. “Let me at least make you breakfast.”
“Okay,” I giggle. I can’t help it. I’m so incredibly happy being here with him. I still can’t wrap my mind around last night, but there’s still a few things that are unclear.
Dean somehow slides out of bed, grabbing another pair of scrubs from his drawer as he gets ready for the day. I know Dean still has to do his entire skin care routine, but when I try to get out of bed, he puts his hand up.
“Stay in bed.”
“I can make you—”
“Nope,” he says, so nonchalantly, I want to throw a pillow at him.
“You still have to get ready. I can do—”
“Stay comfortably in my bed, baby. I like this. Hell, I’ve craved this.”
“What?”
“Getting ready while you stare at me wearing my shirt. God, Aubs, haven’t you realized what we’re doing right now is something I’ve dreamed about for years? I like being domestic with my girl. This is fucking everything to me, so let me make you breakfast while you fulfill one of my dreams. The second dream you’ve checked off on my list in the last twelve hours, by the way.”
I tilt my head at him, trying not to cry. I guess I underestimated how much he liked me, but then again, there was apparently a lot I didn’t know.
“You’re too sweet to me.”
“I’m just telling you the truth.” He winks at me as he puts on the scrub cap I bought him.
“I didn’t know you still wore that.”
“It’s my favorite one. Of course I still wear it.”
“Do you want to know something funny about that cap? Well, maybe funny isn’t the right word,” I say, almost to myself.
“There’s a story behind this?” He stops what he’s doing. “Color me intrigued.”
“I, uh, actually broke up with Shane over that scrub cap.”
“You what?” His eyes bulge out of head. “What do you mean?”
“He, uh…” I run my hand down my face. I never thought he would find out about this, but I’m tired of keeping it a secret. “After I gave it to you, he must have seen something he didn’t like at your party, so he gave me an ultimatum.”
