“A soldier’s gotta eat, right?” He laughed, but the sound died when I sank three more balls. “You sure your feelings aren’t going to be hurt when I sink the eight ball?”

“You sure you won’t be offended if I tell you how hot it is that you’re so damn good at this game? I thought the view alone would be best part. I was wrong.”

His words sent a shiver through my spine, and I stood up and shook off the lust that had taken over my body. Then I bent down and cleared the table. “Walk me home?”

“I’d love to.”

The night air was just chilly enough to cool my overheated skin, but it did nothing to stop my racing heart. It had been so long that I’d forgotten how much of a rush it could be, just flirting with a good-looking man.

“Have you thought of a way to surprise me for our date?” I had the perfect dress all picked out, and a pair of shoes guaranteed to make his mouth water.

Miles let out a low chuckle. “It’s not a surprise if I tell you beforehand.”

“I didn’t ask what the surprise was, only if you figured it out.” There was something about Miles that invited smiles and laughter, and I enjoyed it. A lot.

“In that case, the answer is, maybe…”

I laughed and bumped his shoulder as we turned onto my block. “I accept that answer. You want to give me a hint?”

Miles laughed and shook his head. “Nope.”

“Not even a little one?” I held my thumb and forefinger less than an inch apart, flashing a teasing smile.

“You like surprises, remember?” We made the short climb up the steps at a slow, sedate pace, almost as if neither of us wanted the night to end.

Finally, we were on the porch, just inches from my door when I turned up to him with what I hoped was a sultry smile. “That’s right, I do. Surprise,” I whispered and then pressed my lips to his, kissing him the way I wanted to do since he smiled down at me at the bar. It wasn’t an over-the-top, make me wanna rip his clothes off type of kiss, but I did want to rip his clothes off.

But I wasn’t that kind of girl. I’d wait at least until the first date.

Miles had the perfect lips for kissing, the kind where the bottom was just a little bit plumper than the top, perfect for a little mid-kiss nibble. He moaned and gripped my hips tighter when my tongue slipped between his lips, kissing me like he was a man starved for kisses. For pleasure.

Too soon, one of us pulled back and I wasn’t really sure who. The cool air on my lips reminded me that we were outside, able to be seen by any number of nosy neighbors, kissing like teenagers. Miles let out a low, anguished laugh.

“That’s one hell of a surprise, Shannon.”

“You’re not the only one capable of a surprise. Good night, Miles.” I stepped inside my little rental with a wide grin, knowing that was indeed one hell of a kiss.

I couldn’t wait for the first date kiss.

Miles

After the kiss that made the walk back to my car near impossible, I decided I needed some space. That kiss had served as the perfect reminder that I hadn’t been with a woman in close to six months. Six long months of building up our new business with Liam, which meant long nights of planning and budgeting, logistics and marketing plans.

Liam always went home to Olive, and I just went home.

But Shannon, she was a good surprise, and that kiss was so hot I knew there was no way I’d be able to resist stripping her down and testing out every inch of her body until I could identify every moan, every cry. Aside from a couple of text messages, we hadn’t spoken. Hadn’t seen each other since that night on her porch.

Now here I was again, standing on the doorstep of the little ranch home she rented while I waited for her to answer the door. I heard footsteps first and a moment later the door opened, revealing her wide smile and excited green eyes.

“Miles. Hey.”

“Hey yourself.” My gaze raked over her casual clothes, just as I requested in last night’s text message. The pink t-shirt she wore clung to her narrow waist and hugged nice full tits that showed a hint of hard nipples. Her jeans sculpted over her shapely legs, tight and making my imagination run wild.

“Is this okay? You said casual and I couldn’t think of anything more casual than jeans and a t-shirt.” Shannon cocked one hip to the side, waiting for me to answer.

“You look hot, but I’m not sure jeans will work for what I have planned.” One auburn brow arched, her lips kicked to one side in an amused grin. “You need to be able to move freely, that’s all.”
