“Now wouldn’t that be a shocking sight for all to behold.” I fold my arms beneath my bosom, and flash my eyes his way. “To see Master Ewan perform lewd, lascivious acts on a gutter slattern like me.” I glance down at the front of his breeches. “I fear that the men of the village would feel quite ashamed of their ability to satisfy their wives, after seeing a sight like that.”

Yes, I am not above flattering him, for I know what the result will be, something well worth having.

Fire rolls in his eyes and his mouth curves. “Lift your skirts, face the wall, and bend over those boxes,” he instructs.

I do as he says, turning to the stack of wooden crates that are full with vegetables. I lift my skirt at the back, and bend over. It is cold and dark in here and my thighs tremble a little. I straighten my legs, determined not to show weakness. When I hear Ewan behind me I rest my elbows on top of the wooden boxes, my skirts captured in around my waist.

The first strike he lands on my bottom comes without warning and I jerk forward, my fingernails biting into the raw wood of the crate as the sting takes hold of me. He slaps the other cheek. I shift from one foot to the other, wriggling my hips, and then I place my feet a little wider, eager to manage this.

On he goes, punishing me for flaunting myself for making him want me. I clench my teeth, savoring that moment where the pain turns to pleasure and my cunny seeps. He pauses, which only makes my skin burn more, and then he delivers several more slaps, fast, before sliding his finger up and down my nether lips. “You are ripe for this, aren’t you?”

Unable to speak, I p

ush my bottom out toward him. He pushes his finger into my hole, and I hear him utter an oath at my back. A moment later his rod replaces his finger and he pushes it quickly inside, his girth stretching me open. His actions are sudden and vigorous and they set loose a howl in my throat. My head jerks back.

Ewan claps his hand over my mouth so that the old man at the shop counter next door does not hear, but he likes that arrangement even more and he ruts me fast, his body pivoting against mine.

“You are a feral creature,” he curses, “and you challenge me in ways that I cannot believe I have to bear.” He grunts loudly, and I can tell his need to shed his seed is pressing. “If it were not for the fact you are so good for this, you would be more trouble than you are worth.”

His words delight me, and I squeeze his rod hard, gripping the hard length of him inside my sheath each time he thrusts inside me. He curses again, his rod stiffens and bows within me, and it presses upon me in a way that makes me shudder and wriggle, needy for more there. I get more, because Ewan is locked into this and he moves faster still, his body bucking as he tries frantically to lose his seed. The rub of his rod in that place is too good, and I pitch forward, my face against his palm as I hit my peak. I bite at his fingers, delighting when it makes him wilder still, his hips bucking. I feel the buttons on his frock coat press against my stinging buttocks. The curious mix of pain and pleasure makes me dizzy, and I rove into delirium, my cunny on fire as I peak.

At the last moment, he pulls away, and clasps his hand over my cunny possessively even while he drenches the fabric of my petticoats with his copious seed.

“That is what you needed, isn’t it?” He gives me one last slap on the rump, and chuckles to himself. “That’s why you came down to the shore, because you wanted me and you needed me to slake your lust.”

The nature of his comment has a curious effect on me, for it makes my mind wander back to that other man down at the edge of the sea, the one who makes me hanker for him so. These last few weeks it is Irvine Maginty that I think of when I am alone in my bed at night, but I cannot let Ewan know that. I have learnt my lessons in this life, and I am ready for Ewan.

My mask slides into place.

Straightening up, I shake my skirt free and look back over my shoulder at him. “Yes, Ewan,” I lie, “that’s exactly what I was looking for.”

“IT’S A BEAUTIFUL MORNING.”

Zoë gasped for breath and peeled her fingers away from the railing she was gripping on to, the voice at her side pulling her back from the vision fast.

Crawford was at her side, speaking to her. He looked out across the marina, where she’d been focused. “Enjoying the view?”

His eyes smoldered as he spoke and Zoë struggled to pull words together, her mind and her body swamped with the vivid imagery she had just experienced.

“Yes,” she replied, breathlessly. Her sex was heavy with longing and right at that moment she would gladly have gone into a dark room with a man who would bend her over and give her a good seeing to. The vision had been so real, she could feel the heat between her thighs and her underwear was cloying to the groove of her pussy.

Crawford was standing close against her, looking at her with a half smile that assured her he was thinking about their encounter the day before. “I’ll call over for you about seven o’ clock, for the do up at the Silver Birch.”

When she didn’t reply, he nodded up the hill. “You hadn’t forgotten, had you?”

“Of course not,” she lied. It had slipped her mind completely and she realized that she hadn’t mentioned it to Grayson. Unease crept up her back.

Movement caught her eye and she looked over at the post office. That was where they went, she realized, along there somewhere was the building where Annabel and Ewan had gone. Elspeth was standing outside the door to her shop, her hands wrapped around a large pottery mug. She smiled and nodded over.

Zoë smiled back, but all she really wanted to do was sit down and think about the vision she’d just had, to try to make sense of it, and to calm the raging lust that it had left her with. There seemed to be distractions at every turn, and it was only the nagging need to go up the hill and pay that damn bill that kept her from following Crawford back into his boat yard.

“I have to go. I have a bill to pay.” She pointed up at the restaurant at the top of the hill.

Crawford followed her gaze. “I’ll see you this evening.”

She nodded and walked on. Elspeth lifted her fingers and waved as she passed by. Zoë returned the wave and pressed along, lust running her senses ragged. She put her head down and walked on to the top of the hill, her mind racing with thoughts and images. It was only as she closed on the restaurant that she wondered if it was even going to be open. Glancing at her watch, she saw it was after ten. As she rounded the corner to the entrance she was relieved to see that the large glass doors were standing wide open and a delivery van was parked outside. Two young men were carrying boxes into the building. She followed them in.
