Jason smiled. “We didn’t doubt it for minute, did we?”

Cal shook his head. “He’s still looking over. You’ve made another fan.”

She chuckled. “He was admiring my tattoo, caught sight of it when I was walking over.”

Cal stroked her hair back from her neck with the back of his hand. “We must give you the matching pair, finish the job with another kiss, one day soon.”

Jason eyed him meaningfully. “Maybe there was only ever meant to be one kiss.”

Cal turned and stared back at him, thoughtfully, his fingers moving against the skin of Georgie’s throat as he considered the statement. Her head fell back, her eyes closing while she shivered gently under his fingers.

“Maybe you’re right,” Cal replied, before he bent to trace her throat with his mouth, breathing her scent deeply, his eyes closing as he absorbed her.

Jason watched the two of them reacting to one another, and he was convinced. They were entirely attuned.

When they eventually arrived in Edinburgh, it was too late for Jason to call on his sister. Instead they checked into a city center hotel. They’d spent the latter part of the drive planning a tour of the Edinburgh sights, for after Jason’s business was attended to. Jason shouted out suggestions over the roar of the hummer wheels on the road, and Georgie scribbled them down on the back of a map. She wanted to see the castle and gallery. Cal wanted to see something of the countryside.

Little did they know that it wasn’t going to be that easy for them to simply be tourists. At least, not quite yet. Not with Gregory on the prowl.

Chapter Eleven

It was a glorious day. Georgie arrived at the breakfast table wearing a flowing dress in poppy-red cotton. It was closely fitted on the bodice, and the dropped waistline fell low over her hips. A long plaited leather belt rested there, accentuating the sway in her walk, before the dress fell down in a rush of floating cotton around her ankles. Cal nodded at her approvingly when she strode across the dining room toward them.

She filched a piece of toast from Jason’s plate. He was sitting slumped in his chair, a glum expression on his face as he fiddled with his mobile phone.

/> Georgie sidled alongside Cal, one hand wrapping around his shoulders. “What’s happening?”

Jason sighed. “I spoke to Kelly, my sister, and she says Zoë knows about the photos, and the papers, and the whole Greg issue.”

“Oh, dear!” Georgie glanced down at Cal to see what his reaction was to this latest development. He shrugged at her silently.

“Yup. Oh, dear ... and to top it all, Gregory is in town.”

Jason ruffled his hair and looked out of the window.

Cal frowned. “I fail to understand why this doesn’t help resolve the problem.”

“Greg stirred up interest within the press, and they’re like a pack of vultures. He said his contact is leaking it to the news desk because he told them he’d have the photos by tonight. So Zoë will think I’m a complete moron for not handling this. Not to mention indiscreet ... and Greg is still hassling me for a result.”

Georgie picked up Cal’s cup and sipped at the coffee. “But Zoë was bound to find out sooner or later. What can Greg do now?”

“If a kiss-and-tell is leaked, the press will be here before nightfall, and they’ll hound her for a result, especially if it’s not forthcoming via the promised route. I’ve seen it happen before, and I can pretty much guarantee that’s what would happen in this case.”

“Kiss-and-tell?”

“That’s what Greg has touted it as.” His expression was glum.

Zoë Mac clearly meant a lot to him, Georgie reflected. He was very protective of her. How different to Richard he was. Richard had tried to manipulate her just to get what he wanted.

“Why don’t you give Zoë a call and apologize. I’m sure if you explain, she’ll understand ... right?”

He rested his head in his hands. “If only it were that simple.”

Georgie felt for him, but like Cal, she figured that apart from smoothing over any upset feelings with his old girlfriend, the problem had pretty much been resolved by his sister’s involvement. The press interest would eventually die down, if they did get wind of it. It was obvious he was just worried about getting in touch with Zoë -- and no wonder, with that situation to explain.

“It’s been over ten years since I last saw her.”

“Jason, tell me if I’m out of line saying this,” Georgie ventured, “but it sounds like you care a lot about Zoë. The very fact that you’re worried about facing her over this problem tells us that.”
