A week to wonder if Beck was corrupting her.

Her messages explained that she’d either be volunteering at the hospital, attending online classes, waiting tables…or spending time with that goddamn thorn in his side. As soon as Seth had read that, his imagination had begun providing unhelpful images of her being penetrated and pleasured by the fucking sadist.

He’d decided then and there to make sure that didn’t happen. And it hadn’t taken him long to come up with a plan. A little conversation with an unwitting Raine told him the time and location of Heavenly’s next date with Beck. Sending the LAPD’s finest to his house for his recently deceased body had filled Seth with a perverse satisfaction. If it had prevented the jackass from making her come again, even better. Oh, to have been a fly on the wall when the cops knocked on the door…

Best of all? He’d gotten away with it. Well, Beck had sent him some blah, blah, blah text because he’d been pissed off. Whatever… But today, Seth was finally getting his chance to spend time alone with Heavenly, and there was nothing Beck could do—except pout and jack off.

Life was sweet. Sometimes Seth amazed himself with his own brilliance.

He checked the clock. Now that Friday afternoon had arrived, Heavenly was finally on her way over. He’d tossed together a little lunch, chilled a bottle of white wine, and tidied up his new apartment. He was ready. Granted, this place wasn’t much more than four walls, but he’d managed to make the one-bedroom livable, also adding passable security and camera surveillance to the front door. It would do until his apartment in Manhattan sold and he could buy in LA. Best of all, it was only a couple of blocks from his new office.

He’d spent the rest of his week opening the West Coast operations for Cooper Investigations. He’d need someone here to help him work cases, man the office when he couldn’t be around. River was still looking for work. He and Seth had hit it off during Hammer, Raine, and Liam’s recent trials. The dedication the man had shown to clearing Hammer’s name and ensuring his sister’s happiness had impressed him. So they’d met for lunch and a beer, laughed about bagging Hammer’s nemesis—literally—then talked business. River had never done PI work and he’d need to get licensed. His military covert operations background sounded impressive, but Seth needed some proof River had the sleuthing skills and finesse to do the job. After all, there’d be no storming bunkers here. Raine’s brother had sworn he’d prove he had what it took. No idea how he’d do that, but the ball was in River’s court.

Impatiently, Seth glanced at the clock again, more than ready for this date. If he played his cards right, he might be fixing Heavenly breakfast, too.

Right on time, the doorbell rang. He checked the door cam and saw her standing on his little porch. She looked adorable, wearing a white tank with a black heart, a casual beige coat, and a wine-colored skirt that hung well above her knees. With a broad smile, he strode across the hardwoods to let her in.

She glanced up at him shyly as he framed the doorway. “Hi, Seth.”

“Oh, fuck. I’ve missed you, angel.” Two weeks apart had been two weeks too long.

Seth meant to invite her in, let her get comfortable, talk to her until she opened up. Then he’d intended to seduce her. Instead, he lost his head, plucked her off her feet, and claimed her mouth. Instantly, her flavor exploded on his taste buds, the same one he’d branded to memory the night of Hammer’s party. Her familiar scent clouded his head as she clung to his neck and wrapped her thighs around his waist. Yeah, she didn’t kiss him like a woman invested in another man. The meeting of their lips felt too much like their mouths making love for that.

Long moments later, she broke away, panting. They stared. Maybe for a moment; maybe for an hour. Time had no meaning as he lost himself in the bluest eyes he’d ever seen.

Then she exhaled on a shaky sigh and her stare fell to his lips. Just like that, she pulled him under her spell again.

Seth couldn’t resist capturing her mouth once more and parting her lips with his insistent tongue. Groaning, he absently kicked the door shut, then slid his palms down her waist to cradle her perfectly pert ass in his hands. He took giant steps across the room and made it as far as the kitchen island before he eased her down and spread her out. Still standing between her thighs, he traced his fingers up her sensitive sides.

She giggled. “I’m ticklish.”

“Yeah?” he taunted.

“Don’t…”

He fingered the sides of her breasts instead.

Her laughter stopped. The palpable hunger that always surged between them roared as he seized her mouth again in an incinerating kiss. Every good intention Seth had about feeding Heavenly before he made his move gave way to unyielding urgency. He became aware of only her. Of her restless fingers digging into his shoulders. Of her hips grinding against his stiff cock. Of her sweet wetness dampening the front of her panties. Seth groaned and drank in every morsel of her answering whimper.
