Later, while back at her home, she stood with Cole in her bedroom. He held her hand tight as they both looked at the bed.

The witches had done an extraordinary job at changing the entire spiritual atmosphere in the room What should have felt like death, felt like…love.

“It feels wonderful in here,” Cole said.

“Better than even I expected.” She then turned to him and he opened his arms to gather her close.

She had to ask. “Are you sure this is what you want, Cole? To be with me and to make a home in Elegance? I mean really sure?”

At that, he smiled and stroked her cheek. “You know it is. Or if you don’t, then I suggest you employ some of your witch senses and do a solid reading of my entire being.”

She sighed as she leaned into him. “I can tell that you’re here, you’re with me and you don’t want to be anywhere else. But I wanted you to have the option.”

“I love you for that. But now there is one more thing we need to do, and a question you’ll have to answer.”

She looked up at him. “What’s that?”

“Bond with me.”

She was never more surprised. “I thought we had.”

“We’re about halfway to the finish line. But there is a special hormone I can release while I’m biting down on your neck that will take us the distance.”

She experienced an involuntary shiver. “Oh. That sounds amazing. Let’s do it now.”

“Just as you asked me, I’ll ask you: Are you sure? Because the bond is permanent.”

Her first thought was to be flippant, and to offer a loud ‘hell, yeah’. But she chose instead to honor the wolf way of doing things. The new wolfish part of her sensed that what he asked was sacred. She cupped his face with both hands. “I want to be fully bonded to you more than anything in the world.”

Love filled his eyes and nothing would ever look more beautiful to her.

He made love to her after that and as promised released the mating hormone at the height of passion. She saw the heavens part and felt herself unite with Cole for all eternity.

She didn’t know what Five Bridges would have in store for them, but it no longer mattered. She didn’t care if they had five days or five hundred years together. She would live out her nights with the man she loved, and it would be wonderful.

The End
