“I’ll find you a shirt to wear. You need to eat.”

I giggle in agreement.

The following morning, I wake up with a sore ache between my legs. Connor’s and my constant pushing and pulling finally paid off. When I threatened to leave, I hadn’t expected him to stop me. I was surprised when he finally told me he was willing to risk his heart for me, for us. Though I wished I knew those were his hesitations because I would’ve eased his concerns a long time ago.

Last night after Connor finished making French toast, we ended up back in his bed. It’s a night I’ll never forget, and though I don’t know where we’ll go from here, I won’t rush any kind of commitment from him. I’d rather take it slow and see where this leads.

Though I’ve only had four hours of sleep, I’m wide-awake. I decide to put his shirt on and head into the kitchen for coffee. Once it’s brewed, I fill a mug full and take it with me to the bathroom. I need a hot shower to melt away the soreness and to wash up.

“Good mornin’,” Connor says as he opens the shower curtain, his eyes lowering down my body.

“Can I help you, Dr. Wallen?” I taunt.

“As a matter of fact, Dr. Bishop…” He steps in, forcing me to make room for his large body. “You can help me with this.” Connor takes my hand and places it on his erection.

I arch a brow. Connor being good in bed with his demands and dirty talk didn’t completely shock me, but I wasn’t anticipating him wanting more this morning.

“Not sure this is on the schedule.”

“It is. I checked.” He winks.

“You’re up early.” I chuckle as I stroke his cock.

Connor cups my chin, bringing his lips to mine. “We’ve restrained ourselves long enough, and I want nothing more than to lose myself in you. Now that I’ve had you, I want more.”

He’s as addicted as I am.

“Only on one condition…” I pick up the pace, knowing he won’t be able to deny me when I’m touching him.

“What?”

“No rules.”

“Deal,” he responds quickly, then pins me to the wall, capturing my mouth.

He devours me—touching, licking, and sucking all of me. When he lifts my leg and thrusts inside, it only takes minutes before I’m screaming out my release. My breathing’s erratic as he buries his face in my neck and comes hard inside me.

By the time my heart rate returns to normal, the water’s nearly cold. Quickly, we wash up and go back to his bedroom. After we’re dressed, we go to the kitchen for some breakfast.

“Let me cook,” I tell him. “Admittedly, I’m no Maize, but I can scramble some eggs.”

He smirks as he pours some coffee. “Trust me, I won’t complain about a beautiful woman making me breakfast.”

“Oh really? Do you get that a lot?” I ask nervously. I don’t want to hear about Connor sleeping with other women.

“Uh…” He blinks, and I go back to cracking eggs in a bowl, not wanting my vulnerability to show. “You’re asking if I’ve had a lot of women sleep over, aren’t you?”

I shrug. “You don’t have to answer. It’s none of my business, and I shouldn’t have asked.”

Connor approaches me and cups my face. “I haven’t been with a woman since my ex. So to answer your internal questions, no, I don’t sleep around.”

“I didn’t assume that.”

“Yes, but I want you to know that I haven’t. After Vivian, I’ve never even tried because well…you kinda consumed my head.”

I smile sheepishly at his sweet confession. Though a part of me is surprised no one else managed to scoop him up because it hasn’t been from a lack of women trying. He’s been one of the most eligible bachelors in town.

“So you’re not going to call me into your office tomorrow and tell me this can’t happen again?”

“Guess I deserved that.” He grins.

“I meant what I said, though. We can be professional at work. I won’t expect any special favors.”

He arches a brow, and I roll my eyes.

“You know what I mean.”

He leans in for a kiss, and I still can’t get over how this is real. My stomach flips every damn time he devours me like this.

“I might not be great at this, so just a warning. You’ll probably get frustrated with me too.”

Tilting my head in confusion, I narrow my eyes. “W-what are you talkin’ about?”

“This…” He waves a finger between us. “Being with someone. Vivian made it very clear I sucked at being a husband because of my career. And she was the only relationship I’ve ever had, so I’m kinda zero and one.”

I nod, and though I don’t know Vivian, I can’t comprehend why she’d give up a guy like Connor. Sure he’s devoted to his work, but what did she expect when she married a doctor?
