THE GROVE WASN’T A place I ever thought I’d call home, yet as I stood on the balcony looking over it, I couldn’t quite stop myself from feeling a sense of pride and admiration.

This was my home now, and I had to protect it.

No, I hadn’t asked to be turned into a monster, but I’d learned something important since accepting Liam’s mating claim: not all monsters had fangs. Not all super-villains looked scary. Sometimes, the most innocent-looking people were the ones you had to worry the most about.

“Beautiful,” Liam said, wrapping his arms around me from behind. I’d heard him come in, but I hadn’t turned. I’d let him pretend he was sneaking up on me, hunting me. Ever since he’d turned me, though, my hearing had been better than ever.

“It is beautiful,” I agreed, looking at the trees and the houses and the quiet little roads.

“I meant you,” he said, kissing my neck.

I closed my eyes and melted back against him. Liam was...everything. He was a fighter and a hero and a villain and a saint. He wore so many different hats that sometimes I couldn’t recognize him, but I didn’t mind. That was part of what made him an incredible leader for the vampires.

“Thank you,” I whispered.

“I love you,” he said. His hands were on my waist, and he pulled me back, closer to himself. I could feel him. I could feel every single bit of him, and I loved it. Gone was the self-loathing and the hatred for having desires.

With Liam, I felt even more alive than I had when I’d been human.

I spun around and wrapped my arms around him, kissing him back.

“I love you, too,” I said.

“So much love,” he smiled. “What’s a vampire to do?”

“I can think of a few things,” I said, blinking innocently.

“How many of those things involve us naked on the bed?”

“The bed” I wrinkled my nose. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know I was mated to a prude.”

He furrowed his brows, and I leaned in to whisper to him.

“I was thinking you could take me here, Liam, looking out over the Grove.”

He growled: a feral sound. It was the kind of sound he only made when he was very angry or very excited, and right now, it was pure adrenaline. He spun me around and pushed me forward so my hands were on the balcony railing. Then he lifted my dress up over my waist, revealing my bottom to him.

“No panties,” he growled.

“It’s easier without them,” I laughed, looking over at him.

He was already pulling his clothes off, and it took only a moment before he was running his hands up and down my back, grabbing my hips, and then pulling me back onto his cock. I groaned, satisfied with the sensation. It was exactly what I needed. It was just what I wanted.

I wanted that, all of that, and then I wanted so much more.

He slid into me from behind over and over. Liam’s hands were everywhere as he made love to me right on the open balcony. He touched my breasts and he ran his hands between my legs. He touched me until he brought me to the very edge of orgasm, and then he hissed in my ear.

“Come for me, little vampire.”

“I’m not little,” I whispered, closing my eyes.

I was close.

So close.

“You’re my vampire,” he whispered. “Come for me.”
