“Yes,” I whisper.

“The other thing.”

“I love you, Quinn. I’ve never loved anyone before, not like this. I love you.” He stops kissing me for just a minute and I place my hands on either side of his face. There’s so much we’ve been through together, so much we’ve overcome as a team. I don’t want to stop now. I don’t want to walk away now. I don’t want to give up now.

I want everything.

And I want Quinn.

“I love you,” I say once more. “You saved me, Quinn. You didn’t have to, but you saved me.”

“Any decent person would have saved you, sweetheart.”

“I don’t just mean from the auction house,” I tell him. “You saved me from going crazy. You saved me from losing my shit. You saved me from everything.”

“And I’m going to keep saving you, Fiona. I’m going to save you every day for the rest of my damn life if you’ll have me.”

“I’d like that,” I whisper to him. “I’d like that a lot.”

“And I’d like to fucking leave on time if you lovebirds are done with the mushy stuff,” Ezra calls from the front door. Quinn flips his brother the bird, and even though Ezra can’t see, he chuckles as he heads back outside.

“Shall we go cause trouble on Mirroean?” Quinn asks with a smile.

“I’d like that very much, Mr. Fox.”

Very much indeed.

Chapter 28

Fiona

We spend a few wonderful days together on the ship, but the entire time, I’m secretly dreading the reunion with my family. I don’t want to talk about what they did. I don’t want to think about it. I don’t want to confront them. I know that I need to, but I really, really don’t want to.

What they did was terrible.

I don’t want to relive it.

Ezra, Hayden, and Quinn are fantastic. They seem to understand what I’m going through and they give me space. At one point, I completely zone out and I begin to feel like a zombie. The closer we get to Mirroean, the more tension I feel. The more I think about asking Quinn to turn the ship around.

I don’t really need to face them.

Not really.

What’s done is done.

I want to move on with my life.

I don’t want to spend days or hours or even minutes rehashing what I went through.

Then Hayden comes to my room.

She knocks on the door and I call for her to come in. I hear the familiar beeps as she enters the pass code to unlock the door. Then Hayden comes inside, sits on the bed next to me, and wraps her arms around me.

“We need to talk.”

“About what?”

“About you. About me. About what you’re going through.” She looks at me like she’s waiting for me to say something, but I don’t have any words.
