She frowns and I know she’s getting frustrated that she’s been unable to rile me up. “He’s going to do this to you again,” she whispers as she shakes her head. “You’re stupid to take him back. He’ll come ru

nning back to me once he remembers how bored he was with you,” she bites.

Her words, which sound an awful lot like my subconscious, slither up my spine and burrow into my brain and I wish I could wipe the smug look off her face in the same way I destroyed her car.

Don’t let her see you crack.

“I highly doubt that. Because no one can fuck that man like I can,” I tell her before I back out of the doorway and close the door in her face without another word.

I lean against the door, my body succumbing to the exhaustion of this conversation as I sink to the floor. Hands wrap around my wrist, holding me upright and then I’m in his arms. I note that he’s put on sweatpants and I press my face into his bare chest as the tears I’ve been holding back start to slide down my face. I open my eyes and the first thing I see is the tattoo with our wedding anniversary and it makes me cry even harder.

“I’m sorry. I’m so fucking sorry,” he tells me as he sits on the couch with me in his lap. “She’s wrong,” he whispers into my hair as he rocks me gently. “I’ll never do this to you again. I won’t take this second chance for granted. Never.” He grips my chin and we lock eyes, though I can barely see him through my tears. I do my best to blink them away, but it only causes a fresh batch of them to form. “I love you. I’ve always loved you, Olivia.”

I sniffle and wipe my eyes. “You don’t know how you felt the past six months. Maybe you did love her…”

“No. Absolutely not,” he says immediately.

“You can’t say that for sure…” I trail off and he swallows hard before looking away from me.

“I know but…I can’t imagine loving anyone other than you.” His eyes are so honest, and I feel like he’s been stripped and laid bare for me to see everything. Bennett has always been honest with me and I know he truly believes that I’m the only woman he’s ever loved.

“I just…I wish I knew more about your relationship with her. Was it more?” I look up at him knowing he can’t answer that question.

He wraps his arms around me and pulls me under his chin allowing his stubble to graze my forehead. “Can you still forgive me, if you never get that answer?”

I pull back. “I’m prepared for that, I just…I wonder if we can really move forward if…”

His brows furrow together. “If…?”

“If we never really work through the past six months.”

“Livi…can’t we just forget it and try and move on?”

Seriously? Does he think it’s that simple? “Forget it? Sure, you can. But what about me? How am I supposed to just forget that we broke up?” I move out of his lap and stand up.

“Baby…”

“No, that’s not how life works. I can’t just sweep it under the rug and pretend it didn’t happen. I still don’t know why I struggle getting and staying pregnant. Eventually, I’ll need those answers. What happens…then?”

“We take things one step at a time. There are other avenues to have children, baby.”

“I just think…it’ll be hard to navigate if we ever find ourselves in a situation like this again, if we don’t work through it now.”

“We won’t.” He stands up and rests his hands on my shoulders squeezing gently. “You and me, remember? There will never be anyone else again.” He leans down and his scent surrounds me. The scent that spoke to me on the most primal level. A raw masculinity that has the space between my legs screaming for him. “You promised we would never be apart.” His hair falls over his forehead and I push it back, running my hand down his cheek.

“I’m not running,” I whisper. “I’m here, I’m not going anywhere.” I run my hand down my body and over his shirt I’m wearing, unbuttoning it slowly and letting it slide down my naked body. I feel a surge of confidence as he drinks me in, his eyes devouring me, zeroing in on my sex. The hunger in his eyes is evident and I take a step back.

“You’ve never looked at anyone the way you look at me.” His eyes snap to mine and stare at me curiously. “You used to look at me like I was the center of your world. Like nothing else mattered the second I walked into a room.”

“I still look at you that way. You are the center of my world.”

I run my fingers down his chest and abdomen, grazing his tattoos, and pulling on the waistband of his sweatpants, tugging him towards me. A smirk finds his face when I push his pants to his ankles. “Take them off.”

He does as I ask, pulling off his sweats and his briefs and leaving him completely naked. His cock springs free, hard and powerful and my mouth waters at how unbelievably sexy my husband is. “What do you want?” he murmurs and when I look up, he’s staring at me like he’s ready to break me in half.

“All of you.”

“You have me. All of me, Olivia.”
