“I know.” He exhaled. “I was losing my resolve anyway. It might have taken a while longer, but I was always this close to coming to lay myself at your feet.

“You wouldn’t have had to. I’d take you however you are. I’ve always been yours.”

A fish jumped in the lake, causing a shimmer in the water. From the house, the strains of a love song floated toward us. Jason took a deep breath and pulled something from his pocket.

“I’ve been carrying this around every day,” he said softly. “Like a charm…or a prayer.” He took my hand in his, and then as he looked at my face, he went down on one knee.

I hitched in a breath and my eyes filled with tears.

He put the ring at the tip of my finger, eyes still on my face. “May I?”

I nodded, and he slipped it on before standing and taking my lips with his.

From the house, there was a burst of fireworks, and as the sky filled with light, my heart followed suit, bursting with unmeasurable happiness.

Epilogue

“Everything looks so beautiful from here,” I exclaimed. I was standing at the window of our room at the guest house, looking out at the castle that was slightly up the hill. The stunning gardens, which had been decked out for the reception, were right in my line of sight.

“Yes, it is beautiful,” Jason agreed. I turned back to the bed and found his eyes on my scantily clad body in my lace nightie. His lips quirked unapologetically. “Come to bed.”

“No. We have to get ready or we’ll be late.”

“We have time.” He rose, exposing his beautiful chest, and I felt my resistance crumbling. I neared the bed.

“We’ll be late.”

He caught my hand and pulled me into the soft sheets. “No, we won’t.”

His lips found my nipple through the sheer lace, and he sucked, the heat from his mouth making its way to my core. I moaned, and he gave me a triumphant grin.

He drew his lips down over my stomach, between my legs, and when his tongue found me, I gave up thinking at all.

He made love to me with his hands and his tongue, pleasuring me the way only he knew how to do. Every touch was a new discovery, and when he finally surged into me, filling me exquisitely to the last inch, I surrendered everything to him, letting him take me to glorious heights of pleasure.

“I like your I just had sex look,” he said afterward. “I can see my touch all over you.”

I laughed. “I can feel your touch all over me.”

“That’s the way it’s supposed to be.” He kissed me, his lips lingering over mine. “Mrs. Wild.”

I smiled, almost giddy with happiness. Amy and Colin had set their wedding date for six months after their engagement party. Then we’d announced our engagement, without deciding on a date. Everyone had assumed we’d wait and have a big wedding, but we’d been impatient, especially after we moved in together.

So, we’d eloped and had a tiny secret wedding with Leonard as our only witness.

I had never been happier, and the best part was seeing Jason happy and knowing that we had nothing to worry about. Sometimes he got emotional, especially with the guilt of escaping the condition that was slowly killing his birth mother, but she was well taken care of, he made sure of that.

I hadn’t warmed to her, nor she to me, but it didn’t matter. What she really wanted was Jason, for a few hours once in a while, to make up for the years she’d missed. He gave her that and I didn’t begrudge them those moments.

I returned Jason’s kiss. “I like it when you call me that,” I murmured.

“Mrs. Wild?” He nibbled on my lips then kissed my neck. “Beautiful Mrs. Wild. Sexy Mrs. Wild. Delicious Mrs. Wild.”

“Hmm.” I melted under him. “Insatiable Mr. Wild,” I quipped. “We have a wedding to get to.”

I was the maid of honor, and as Amy said her vows in the beautiful castle, everyone had tears in their eyes, including Colin. From the pews, Jason smiled at me.

“I love you,” he whispered soundlessly.
