“We don’t know that he did anything,” Nate said, but he didn’t sound all that convincing. “Logan thinks he and Melody drove back to Vegas together?”

“It appears as if they were friendly and she obviously feels comfortable with him.” Kyle’s gut tightened as he imagined what might’ve happened to Melody since. “Right before Logan called, I got a text from her claiming she’s staying in a hotel.”

“You don’t think it’s her?”

“No. I think it’s this Craig guy.”

“So, we’re assuming he offered her a ride back to Las Vegas,” Nate said, sounding puzzled. “And then we think he what? Kidnapped her? This just doesn’t make any sense.”

“Why would he have been in LA?”

“He was at The Roxy for her performance.”

Kyle was liking this less and less. “So obviously he’s interested enough in her to make that trip.” Could Craig have been her stalker? The roses that showed up at the studio. The ultrasound video that disappeared and then reappeared at the studio. It made sense.

“We don’t know that’s the only reason he was in LA,” Nate said. “Maybe he had something else to do and since he was there decided to catch her show.”

“Why are you defending him?” Kyle demanded, fists clenching.

“I’m not. I’m just trying to look at this from all angles. We don’t really know what’s going on.”

Acid ate into Kyle’s gut. “I know that Melody is missing and Craig is the last guy she was seen with. That’s good enough for me.”

Nate’s tone grew conciliatory. “Hey, I get it. We’re all worried.”

“Sorry.” The breath Kyle hauled in didn’t calm him, but he knew nothing would be gained by lashing out. “I didn’t mean to take anything out on you.”

“It’s okay. You did the right thing getting Wolfe Security involved.”

“From the way Trent talked, they can dig into whatever we need to find her.”

“If you need any information on Craig, just call the studio and ask for Reggie. He can get into the personnel files. Whatever you need.”

“I appreciate it.”

Kyle hung up and stared around the airport gate area without seeing any of it. Curses rang through his mind as he contemplated what could possibly be happening with Melody right now. He began making his way to the exit. He couldn’t just sit around and wait. He had to do something. The phone rang as he left the terminal and was heading toward the parking lot.

It was Logan, calling him back. “We’ve got the guy’s address and phone number. We tried calling, but it rolls straight to voice mail. I have a three-man team heading over to his house right now. They’ll let me know what they find.”

“Should we call the cops?”

“At this point we don’t have any evidence of a kidnapping. Let’s see what my guys find. It’s possible we’re barking up the wrong tree.”

Logan didn’t say what Kyle was thinking. That time was of the essence if Craig actually had abducted Melody. The cops would be slow to investigate, especially with the question of whether or not she had a stalker. Roses and a nanny cam weren’t all that conclusive.

“Give me his address,” Kyle said. “I want to be there.”

“That’s not a good idea.” Logan’s tone brooked no argument. “Let my men handle it.”

“Please tell them to be careful.” Kyle could imagine too many ways this scenario could go wrong.

“Don’t worry, they’re trained in this sort of operation. Just sit tight and I’ll let you know what they come up with.”

Kyle couldn’t just sit around waiting to hear. “That’s not good enough. I need to be doing something.”

“At this point there isn’t much to do. I promise I’ll let you know as soon as I hear anything.”

Kyle headed to his car. He could go to Nate’s studio and get Craig’s personnel records. There’d be an emergency contact. That person might know something. And he could talk to the sound engineer’s coworkers. Surely they would know something that could shed light on what made Craig tick.
