“I am sorry I stole them from you.”

Helen looks at me with tearful enigmatic eyes and nods, avoiding talking about it. “They are adults now, capable of making their own choices.”

She moves to her husband, clearly not ready to open that can of worms today.

A few hours later, as we finish the tree, we all stand back to admire it lit up in all its sparkling glory. Logan brings out whiskey to share with the four men as the rest of us reside in the kitchen, where we chat and get to know each other.

A short while later, Logan’s hands pull me into an embrace, claiming my lips like a hungry man needing a mouthful to quench the thirst. He is unapologetic and my head spins with sensory overload.

His wandering lips travel down my neck, eliciting my nerves to flare, and my legs fold underneath me. Logan catches me as the noise of chattering not far away brings us back to reality. Logan's nostrils flare as the intimate caresses challenge his restraint.

We rest our foreheads together, reluctant to part from one another. He closes his eyes to curb his reaction to me. When he opens them, we begin to sway to the music softly playing in the background.

“I missed you so much, Cassandra.” His hoarse voice vibrates through me.

His lips brush my earlobe as his hands pull me tighter against him. Inhaling him, I feel havoc inside me as an enormous joy blasts in my chest.

Incapable of speaking, I wish he would never leave me, but I hold myself back from pleading, not wanting to burden him. I’m not strong enough to push them out of my life again. Shaking in his arms, I hold the tears back, swallowing the big lump in my throat.

“I’m so happy you all are here,” I tell him on a choked note. His soothing lips brush against my skin.

“You two lovers, come feed us,” Leif's hollers, interrupting our dance.

“Let’s go, before they make videos of us to upload to YouTube.” It was the probable outcome, as it did happen once before.

“Better safe than sorry?” Logan arches his eyebrow with a smirk.

For the first time, I have a chance to observe their dynamics, and it’s obvious their mother is much cherished. There is no pretense of politeness as they converse. Evidently, the men rely on her integrity on many topics. The most fascinating observation is the way Darren watches his wife. After being together so long, there is this close and strong bond between them. His hand always touches her hip or the small of her back as they look at each other from time to time, for validation or opinions.

Watching them, I wonder how they deal with Leif’s antagonizing character or his not-so-subtle conduct. Or Lucas, and his concept of core values that has been permeated into many aspects of his life, beginning in training and continuing into combat. As I study the Cade family, I become curious as to what influenced these men to grow up so differently.

Seeing her after a long two and a half months, I am incapable of concentrating on my conversation about the project my mother started with a cancer research company. My brothers love discussing all the details and developments in the field, but not me. Today, my head and my senses are overloaded with her being so close.

Raine passes Cassandra a book, and she opens the first colorful page to read. With the first uttered words, the twins freeze as they listen to their mother. Their mouths part slightly as they look and touch the colorful book pages.

I trace her lean body that has been transformed due to obvious working out, and her face is much brighter. Her friendship with Lucas and Leif has helped her deal with everyday challenges.

The Christmas period is our first time coming together after a long time apart. Being super aware of her every move, my nerves burn with the need to reunite us in a tangle of naked bodies, to quench my thirst with passionate kisses. Her increased breathing and rosy complexion make me believe she is super conscious of me as well.

Lightly brushing myself against her, I send the message of what will follow afterward. The anticipation building in my stomach shoots electric currents to my cock, urging me to claim this woman. I lean into her as my breath caresses her neck, and a shiver runs down her body, leaving goose bumps in its wake. She looks at me with furrowed eyebrows, silently reprimanding me, which only makes my playful nature come out to challenge hers.

A warning spark in her stubborn eyes causes my heart to palpitate faster. Fastening my gaze on hers, I let her know I will leave no choice but sweetly surrender. Cassandra tries to create as much space as she can, but I am not giving up. I gently tug her back to me, nibbling on her sensitive spot. When she looks back at me, with annoyance etched in her cute features.

As soon as the lights go out, she will be mine again. This has been on my mind since we left, and the time apart hasn’t diminished my thirst for her.

Leon watches us with his all-seeing little eyes, as he analyzes our faces. Smart detective. After a while, he’s bouncing and babbling conversationally as the things he sees between his parents apparently please his expectations.

“They are both tryin’ to get their parents together,” Lucas observes, like a proud captain with his soldiers.

“They are so cute,” Raine comments, as she watches them play and interact with everyone, eventually getting exhausted. My sleepy, worn-out twins need their beds, so at nine o’clock, we take them upstairs to first give them a relaxing bath, and then settle them in for a good night’s sleep.

“Hey, we brought all the stuff for your soldiers. Don’t start your striptease just yet. Let your kids go to sleep first.” An annoying Leif walks in with his eyes closed, not peeking at all.

“Thanks, brother!” Logan pats him on the back. Leif opens his eyes, which sparkle in delight, and then he turns his mischievous gaze on me.
