Andrew sighed. "You can always text me if you need help acclimating to the wild world of America's Dairyland. It really isn't that bad, though. You'll see when you get there."

I put down my glass of Moscato. "I better get home. I need to make a list of everything that I need to buy for visiting the Arctic Circle."

"Send me a picture when you get there. I kind of miss the land of ice and snow."

"Nobody should go north of the Wall."

"You know nothing, Jon Snow."

We smiled at each other. "I'll talk to you soon."

He waved at me, and he pulled his cell phone out of his pocket, the sure solution to solitude.

MSN Airport

Amelia

I looked out the window as my jet landed at the Madison airport. Below me, the permafrost covered every inch. There was no green at all in the landscape below me. It was all snow. And probably ice.

"All set, Miss Amelia?"

"Yes, thanks, Captain Harris." I stood up and hugged him. "Thanks for taking me here safely. I'll se

e you in a week." It might seem weird that I liked Captain Harris so much, but he had been our pilot for the past 10 years. He knew us better than anybody else, including our housekeeper. He was there for the highs and lows. I made a mental note to ask Daddy to give him another raise. Captain Harris was one of the constants in my life.

When I got to the airfield, I looked for a black SUV or limo. I always had limo service, and even in this godforsaken country, they should have the same black car service, right?

Instead, the only car in lot was a rusty red F150. It looked like it was from World War II. Someone got out of the car, but I looked past him. I hope that my limo would come soon.

"Hello, there."

I nodded at the yokel, but I kept looking at the road, waiting for my driver.

"Are you Amelia Boyd?"

I blinked. "I am." Please tell me this wasn't happening. This was a mistake. He had another car somewhere or this farmer was helping out a friend.

"I'm Jimmy Fox." He extended his hand. "It's nice to finally meet you."

I looked at his callused, dirty hand. I gulped audibly, but I had been raised with some semblance of manners, as much as I did not want to be. I wanted to run straight back to the jet before Captain Harris took off again.

"How do you do? So I'm supposed to come with you?" Please tell me that this was a stupid joke and he would rip away the overalls so that he looked like a normal person.

"Yep." He walked back to his truck and opened the passenger door. "Do you want help getting in? The running boards were torn off a decade ago."

I had no choice but to accept his offer. "That would be wonder. Thank you."

He pushed me into the car like I was no heavier than a feather."You are really strong."

"You don't weigh anything. You are a lot lighter than a cow."

Ew. I didn't know if that was really a compliment or not. I blinked a bit.

He walked around the car. He stepped into the car normally. His legs were so long. He was definitely over 6 feet, maybe by four inches. He looked like he had some very huge muscles, although it was hard to tell under all that flannel.

“I live pretty far away. It will be a long ride.”

"That's okay. I'll just sit here." I pulled out my iPhone and went to pull up Feedly so I could read the news.
