The longer she spent in the car, the more excited she was.

“I couldn’t imagine,” she admitted honestly. “And yea, you two are probably better off. I think you stuck with her long after she started treating you like shit.”

“I’m a sucker for love,” he said casually. “Or at least, what I thought was love.” He laid one arm down to rest beside her as he steered the way, driving them towards the party. As well-to-do as Dwayne might be, he wasn’t like his ex, he’d not been born into it. “That Larry’s a lout too, though.

Never could understand what you saw in him.”

Celeste shrugged. It was sad she was already having a hard time remembering why she stayed so long, other than being bored and lonely. But he hadn’t really helped with either of those things. Always too obsessed with hanging out with the boys, and not interested at all in her own needs.

“I don’t know. Over now, though. I broke up with him by text which is better than he deserves.”

“Damn straight,” came Dwayne’s instant response, a nod of his head as he grew a smile once more. “We’re gonna light the night up you and I, nothin’ holding us back then,” he declared as he pulled up into the parking garage of their destination, a high-rise tower in the heart of the city.

He got out of the car, rounded about the vehicle and opened Celeste’s door for her, smiling all the while like it was the happiest day of his life. All the sadness drained from him as their time together had only just begun.

And she was feeling just fantastic. Nothing to hold her back as her arm slipped through his. She was freezing in her slutty little dress, but that didn’t matter at all to her. And it certainly wouldn’t as the clock struck midnight.

“I can’t fucking wait for this,” she said earnestly. “I’ve been looking forward to it since you told me how awesome it was last year.”

Dwayne smiled at her happily, guiding her to the elevator.

“It’s the sort of thing I knew you’d enjoy,” he stated, hitting the button to take them on up to the top floor.

She could feel the hard muscles of his thick forearm even through that coat of his. He was in far better shape than Larry could ever hope to be, not with his lack of drive. Yet all the while she touched his arm, his eyes glimmered with excitement as he looked over at her, looking to be downright proud to have her on his arm.

She certainly never saw him with his ex looking so damn happy.

Celeste was abuzz with energy, especially as she started hearing the music reverberating through the metal. The ‘club’ was in the upstairs of an expensive office building. Since the workers all left by the time the party got started at night, there were never any issues, and noise complaints weren’t a thing they’d ever worry about.

Celeste was already bouncing her head to the beat, so excited to get on the dance floor and grind against her date.

As the doors swung open, the colourful, oscillating lights struck her, and the sight of so many gorgeous, well-to-do partiers greeted her. Dwayne took off his coat and handed it over to the coat check lady with a smile before he led her on in. The dance floor was huge, and there were two bars within sight just from where Celeste stood.

Though more striking was the view of the cityscape. The lights of New York and the ocean beyond all laid out before her, looking absolutely brilliant.

She’d heard about the place, she’d seen pictures, but nothing could’ve prepared her for the reality. She was blown away, and her lips dropped open with appreciation. She squeezed into Dwayne a bit tighter and suddenly didn’t feel so confident as she had a moment earlier, but when he hugged her back, she relaxed.

“This is amazing,” she said breathlessly before realizing he likely couldn’t hear her over the music. She could barely hear herself.

“And so are you,” he responded to her in kind, giving such a bright, white-toothed smile as he led her on down to the dance floor. There were balconies outside the glass, but the warmth of all those bodies was such a great shift for Celeste, dressed in her skimpy outfit.

Without wasting a moment’s notice, Dwayne took her hand and began to dance with her. It wasn’t even the sort of half-assed man-dance that Larry and all her other boyfriends gave her. It was smooth and practiced, showing off both his fit form and the work that had gone into developing some skill with the act.

Dating rich girls pays off, she thought to herself with a grin, her body pressed up against his. She let him lead the tempo, the rhythm, her own motions a bit more seductive and sultry as she looked up at him.

How had they been kept apart so long? She knew it wasn’t just hope that made her see that twinkle in his eyes, the smile he gave just for her. She’d be an idiot to think that.

Her hand pressed to his chest and she felt the steady beat of his heart keep time with the rhythm of the music, and it made her smile grow.

The two of them blew the others away, with Dwayne leading her through such a flowing, beautiful number. His two strong hands moved over her waist, her hips, took hold of her hands at point, guiding her along, showing her exactly how and when to make each move.

It was the first time being guided so intimately by a man came so natural for Celeste, and he didn’t make a single misstep. A single miscalculation, his hands never losing their warm, guiding strength as he took her about, their bodies moving through the night. Until at last a pause in the music came and he pulled her in close.

“You want a drink?” he asked her, pressing his forehead to hers as he looked down at the much shorter woman.

Her eyes went up to his and she already felt drunk. Absolutely, head over heels, drunk in lust. She licked her lips and their mouths were so close she almost touched his.

“I’d like that,” she admitted, but only so that she had a chance to let her own beating heart calm down. There was such an energy in the air.
