Page 13 of Punishing the Brats

“Yeah yeah yeah… No party, no fun. I thought Kara and me could hang out here tonight. But I came bearing gifts.” From his beach bag he pulled out a bottle of tequila. “Will margaritas buy the peace?”

He was such a goof that it was hard to refuse him anything.

“Okay but nobody’s throwing toilet paper in the trees or filling the pool with suds.”

We all started laughing. I wasn’t a complete buzzkill. Besides, Drake had always been nice to me, ever since our parents married when I was in kindergarten. He was a year older but he was so smart that he was already skipping ahead in college. This summer he was interning at Throckmorton International Solutions, one of the hottest tech startups around.

“Why don’t you guys go splash around in the water while I make the drinks?”

“Good idea,” Kara said. “It’s so hot today.”

Drake went back into the house and his girlfriend slithered out of her daisy dukes and flip-flops. She untied her hair and I was spellbound as I watched her wading down the steps into the pool.

She was barely five feet tall and had the tiniest frame. Her butt was probably too small for the palm of my hand and the same could be said of her breasts. And she had a cute face which looked angelic but I couldn’t help wondering if it was hiding a naughtier nature. Her string bikini was striped and didn’t cover much, unlike mine which was blue and built for comfort.

“Oh! The water’s cool but it’s so refreshing.”

I decided to join her. At this time, the sun was going down anyway and there was no point lounging in the sun. I went completely underwater to slick my brown hair back and then the both of us just swam sluggishly.

We talked about random stuff. I didn’t really know her so she told me about her family, what her parents did, how she wanted to go on to study architecture. She seemed like a nice, smart girl and I could see why my brother could fall for her.

“Man,” she said. “I wish I’d grown-up in a house like this, with this kind of pool. I bet you don’t have trouble getting guys to come party with you here, uh?”

“No, I’m not like that.”

“You don’t like guys?” she asked, confused.

“No, I mean I don’t party much.”

“What are you talking about? If I had a body like yours, Suzette, I’d have a different guy here every night. Hell, maybe two at a time!”

I shrugged. “Not really my style.”

“You’re not a virgin, are you?”

“No, but I guess I’m a homebody.”

“Oh cool. And sorry if it felt like I was prying.”

“It’s okay,” I said. “Now I get to punish you.”

She frowned and I took the opportunity to send water splashing into her face. She defended herself by doing the same to me. It was fun, it had been an

eternity since I’d acted like a kid.

“Now now, girls!” Drake said as he came out of the house, his arms full of bar supplies. “Don’t go having too much fun.”

“What’s this? Where are the drinks?”

“Yeah, we’re thirsty over here!”

He put everything on the table and took off his shirt, revealing the rippling muscles he’d earned from working out every day since he hit puberty.

“I thought I’d make the drinks out here. Okay, the truth is I don’t know the recipe for margaritas and figured you guys would know.”

We laughed while he plugged in the blender and then we spitballed general recipe ideas until he threw in equal measures of ice, tequila, and margarita mix. He poured three drinks into red cups and we swam to the coping to get ours.

Over the next hour we simply relaxed. We talked and drank. My brother came down for a swim and went to prepare another round of drinks. While he climbed out of the water, he tossed a beach ball and some pool noodles so we would have something to throw at each other.
