“Are you okay? Did he hurt you?”
I shook my head, staring at him.
“I got here just in time to see him pulling you back here and barely remember anything past that. I don’t trust him with you.”
“I’m okay. He got a bit pushy is all. I’m fine. Are you?” I asked, reaching out to touch his bloodied face. “We should clean you up.”
“I got more in than he did,” Jackson assured me, making my heart melt as I gazed at him. “I want to take you the fuck outta here, Emma. Can we leave?”
I surveyed the bruises that were starting to show and smiled a little.
“Considering how hot what you just did for me is, yes. I’m so scared for you right now, but I do want to leave with you.”
Jackson ducked further behind the tree and I glanced over to see Joe being carried through the glass doors by some of his friends. Bella was yelling at him and I followed Jackson to the exit from the courtyard, pausing as we watched Joe get tossed onto the front lawn.
Jackson walked me out as soon as things were quiet, leading me between cars to his. He unlocked the door. I slid inside as he opened it and smiled as he walked around to his side.
I wasn’t sure about my reaction to what happened just now. On one hand, he protected me and that was amazing but on the other, he was hurt and the team could let him go. I just looked across the car to watch him for a moment. Jackson reached over for my hand, stroking my hand with his thumb as I felt confusion filling my mind but love fill my heart.
CHAPTER 20
JACKSON
I drove and held tightly onto her hand, trying to keep her with me. I played back what I could recall about tonight as we drove away from all of it, remembering the flash of rage when I saw Joe leading her across the grass to a dark patch of trees. Nobody was paying them any attention, and I almost broke the truck door trying to open it to get to them.
“He scared me, Jackson. He was all over me in the kitchen, pinning me and then suddenly dragging me out back. I thought that someone would see and stop him, but I felt invisible. I didn’t know what was going to happen and then you were there.”
The first hit I landed was a blur, and I winced as I drove, trying to focus on the road. I knew that was going to come back to haunt me, but it was worth it to get Emma away from him. She was more than just a girl I was falling for. She was the woman who I watched grow up into this beautiful, strong person and no one was going to take that away from her.
We got to my place, and I parked, turning the engine off. We sat in silence. I had a moment of uncertainty until Emma moved to kiss me, her mouth hot on mine. I tilted my head to deepen it, feeling her willingness to be mine in the stroke of her tongue and her hands that pulled me closer to her. Emma was mine, if only for tonight.
We kissed until I couldn’t take it any longer. I pulled back and looked her in the eyes.
“Can we move this indoors? I don’t want to give the neighbors a show.”
Emma bit her lip and smiled. “Yes, let’s go inside.”
I walked around to her side of the truck and carried her to my door. I let her down to unlock it, then then followed her inside, kicking the door closed behind me as I kissed her again. Our lips crashed together as I reached down to cup her ass, lifting her body against mine and pressing firmly into her. Emma wrapped her arms around me and pulled me closer as I pressed her against the wall.
Her skirt was short, and I groaned as I touched bare skin, gripping her tighter as I drove my jean-covered groin against her, hearing her cry out. I didn’t want to hope too much for sex tonight, but I was hard and needy when it came to Emma. I didn’t want to deny myself of her any longer and I kissed her harder. She wrapped her legs around me, tightening her hold around my neck. I pulled her away from the wall, stumbling down the hallway as I looked ahead. I was going to keep her in my bed forever this time.
I walked through my doorway and paused before the bed, hardly able to believe that this was happening. Emma looked back and put her legs down, her eyes hungry for me. I’d never seen her so aroused, and I reached out for her as she slipped her hands into my pants, loosening them before she pushed them to the floor.
