He suddenly stopped, and I quickly ducked down behind an office cubicle. Did he know I was behind him? I breathed out a nervous sigh of relief when I heard the elevator doors ding open, and he got on. As soon as the doors slid shut, I crawled out from my hiding place and made a beeline for the stairs, making note of the floor number he was trying to get to.

Level thirteen? What would he be going up there for? Saying screw the heels, I slid them off and left them behind, forcing myself to ignore how dirty the tiled stairs were.

By the time I hit the eighth level, I was thoroughly regretting my decision.

My chest was heaving, and I was more or less dragging myself up using the thin railing. This was karma for all the nights Abigail and I had gotten way too drunk and stuffed our faces with greasy pizza and fudge brownies.

When I finally got to the thirteenth floor, I realized how dumb my whole mini mission had been. I had no idea where Pierce would have gone. No lights were coming from any of the private offices, and all the doors were shut. With a groan, I slid down the wall and pulled my aching legs to my chest.

“While I appreciate the view, I have to ask. What are you doing up here?”

I jumped out of my skin, lifting my head to see Pierce casually leaning against the wall a few feet away from me, making no attempt to hide the fact he was staring between my legs. Right at my pink thong.

Hastily rising to my feet, I tugged my navy dress down and glared at him.

“Funny. I was going to ask what you are doing up here?”

Based on the look that came across his face, Pierce didn’t like being ignored or questioned.

“I have an office up here. Now, I will ask you again. What are you doing up here?”

“An office?”

“I own the building.”

Is that why my dad was so eager to invest? I needed way more information than I had, and the only man privy to all the shit I wanted to know was right across from me.

Seth surely wasn’t going to tell me. If he found out what I was up to, he’d lock me inside the house and never let me back out. Or put another embarrassingly obvious detail on me again.

“I was looking for you,” I finally answered, with much more confidence than I felt.

“Really? After we’ve been looking at each other all night?” Pierce drawled sarcastically.

What a smartass.

“I can’t talk to you?” I went for a flirty approach. Maybe not the wisest choice, but it was better than blurting out I knew he was up to something and was going to find out what. Whereas most people were terrified of Pierce, I wasn’t. My stupid brain wouldn’t allow it.

He emanated raw power, and there was something a little twisted lurking in his eyes. Maybe I was a glutton for punishment, because I wanted to find out just how twisted it was.

Pierce looked me over with a slow perusal, one that had my blood rushing through my veins. He removed his hands from his pockets and moved forward in a predatory way, placing them on either side of me, effectively caging me in.

I pushed my head back against the wall, as if that would put some space between our nearly touching lips. His breath smelled strongly of peppermints, with a faint trace of whiskey. My imagination ran wild as I felt his muscular body through the fabric of his clothes and stared up into his gorgeous eyes.

Taking slow, even breaths, I struggled not to breathe directly into his face, mortified my breath would smell like the peanut butter cookies I’d been eating all night. My tongue darted out and swiped over my bottom lip. Pierce’s eyes tracked the movement.

When he bent his head down the slightest bit and ghosted his lips over mine, I froze. My brain had a blank what the hell is happening? moment.

“Did you come to talk? Or did you come to finish what we started?” He asked in a dark tone, heavily emphasizing every word.

I stupidly stared at him.

“I–”

“If you came to talk, I don’t have anything to say to you, but if you want me to fuck you, we can go into my office.” There was nothing overtly sexy about the way he was speaking to me, but I found the vulgarity of it oddly seductive.

He didn’t move his face away from mine; there was a challenge reflected in his eyes. He knew I didn’t come all the way up here to talk to him. We’d seen each other far too many times the last few weeks for that excuse to be feasible. I was in way over my head. Swallowing nervously, I placed my hands on his chest and gently pushed against him.
