When a street name above a stop sign caught my attention, Jason remained immobile. He put his truck into park and turned to face me.

Bear Creek Road.

He was looking at me with eyes full of lust. God, this was not good. I had a distinct feeling Jason had done this many a time before.

“So, do you want to talk about it? Or do you want me to make you feel good?” He leaned in to kiss me. I turned my head at the last minute, giving him my cheek. Make me feel good? I turned my laugh into a cough. When his tongue darted out and ran across my skin, I wanted to shove him across the cabin. Where the hell was Pierce?

“This isn’t talking, Jason.” I pushed him away, keeping my legs pressed together when he tried to part them.

“You didn’t beg me for a ride to just to chit chat.” He laughed again. I didn’t find the situation funny.

“One, I never begged. Two, did you really think I’d fuck you in a car? You’re not that special, babe.”

I pushed him away again when he tried to lean back in. No meant fucking no.

“Willow.” He grabbed hold of my forearm and glared at me.

The back windshield shattered before I could tell him to get the hell off me. My eyes went to the clock as I undid my seatbelt and ducked down.

Jason’s SUV lurched forward as the one behind us smashed into it. Gunfire seemed to come from everywhere at once. The back windows splintered as they were hit next, sending little shards of glass in all directions. I heard tires screeching but didn’t dare lift my head.

I’d seen way too many movies and knew exactly how this worked. It was over two minutes after it started. Everything went quiet. Jason, the genius that he was, decided now was the time to get out. I seriously wondered how the guy had made it as long as he had in this world of chaos.

“Jason, stay the fuck down,” I hissed.

Pierce didn’t tell me to leave with this man and shoot up his vehicle just to let him hop out and go unharmed. I was so busy thinking of myself and everything happening that I didn’t think about Jason.

“Jason!” I reached up and grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and pulled as hard as I could when he reached for the door handle. There wasn’t a ton of space to work with, but it was enough to drag him backward.

“What the hell?” He shook me off and looked at me as if I were crazy.

“I’m trying to save you. Why would you get out of the car? You have no idea who’s out there.”

“I know exactly who is out there and I know why. Let me handle this,” he fixed his collar and got out of the truck.

Cursing, I followed him, scrambling over the leather seat.

Pierce, Enrique, Tito, and the blonde-haired man stood a little way in front of another SUV that had just arrived on the scene. Two sedans flanked it. Men stood outside them, looking ready to fly into action with the snap of a finger.

It was like an action movie brought to life. Finally realizing his dire situation, Jason feebly attempted to explain himself.

“My cousin saw everything.” Pierce cut him off and turned his head to look at me, his voice remarkably calm considering he’d just taken part in a shootout. With a silent command, he motioned me to come to him. I shot Jason an apologetic look, knowing it didn’t make up for any of this, and walked to Pierce. He wordlessly looked me over before gently moving me to stand beside Tito.

“I want you to apologize.” He looked back at Jason with a dark look in his eyes.

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have let her drag me off like that.” Jason forced a laugh.

“You mean to tell me that tiny woman dragged you off? Pierce scoffed, gesturing towards me.

Quicker than my eyes could track, Pierce grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and lifted him off the ground.

“Pierce!” I went to intervene, but Enrique shook his head at me.

“You decided it was okay to be alone in a car with my fiancée?”

He didn’t get a chance to answer. Pierce grabbed him by the back of the neck and slammed his face into the side of the truck. Something cracked, and blood began to gush from Jason’s nose. He groaned in pain, cursing loudly.

The violence didn’t bother me; I’d watched a man get his tongue blowtorched before. However, the fact that Jason hadn’t done anything did bother me.

“Pierce, knock it off!” I might as well have been yelling at a wall.

When Jason attempted to get up from where he’d landed on the ground, Pierce kicked him in the ribs to bring him back down.
