“I really like him,” the other one said. That had to be Rose.

“May the best woman win,” came the reply.

There was another pause. Then they both burst into laughter.

One of them bent low and kissed him on the forehead. Then the other. After that they retreated out of the room, still giggling together. Mullen opened his eyes and searched for his bell. He rang it. Hopefully the nurse would give him some sympathy. He needed it. He wondered if she would be the navy blue woman of his dreams.
