But I have hope Zeke will come back. We will see each other again. Our family will one day be whole again.

“Do you still have that lighter?” I ask Enzo.

He nods slowly, reaches into his pocket and hands it to me.

I light the note on fire, toss it to the sand, and I wait for it to burn to ash. I choose to let Zeke’s secret stay hidden because sometimes people need to stay dead until it’s safe for them to be alive again.

“What was in that note?” Enzo asks.

“Do you trust me?”

“With my life.”

“Then trust you will find out when the time is right.”

Enzo sighs. “I hate that I let you be the leader sometimes.”

I give him side-eye. “Let me?”

“Fine, I take it back. I love that you are the queen you deserve to be. You were always meant to be Mrs. Black.”

I kiss him. “That I was.”

“What was in the note?” he tries again.

“It was really good,” I say with a grin as we walk down the pier.

He sighs. “But you aren’t going to tell me?”

“Nope. Someday, but not today.”

“You are one frustrating woman.”

“I know.”

“So will you marry me again?”

“Someday.”

He frowns. “Why not now?”

Because I want everyone I love there, including Zeke. “You’ll see.”

He huffs.

My phone rings, and I answer Clifton, listen to him talk for a minute, and then hang up.

“Are you going to tell me what that was about?” Enzo asks.

“That I can do. Clifton called to say they were able to handle the attack. They thought they were hauling drugs, but Clifton and the crew captured the men. We don’t need to go.”

“Good, because I need to punish you for not telling me why you won’t marry me.” He slaps me on the ass and then scoops me up in his arms. Eyeing one of our yachts docked near us, he heads in that direction.

“What about Beckett?” I ask.

“This won’t take long.”

“The kids?”
